MERYL Streep – one of the best actresses of all time — hit the red carpet Thursday afternoon for the 4th Annual Rome International Film Festival, where she’s promoting her brilliant (and it is good) new movie Julie & Julia.

Meryl, 60, has lots to smile about — her daughter, Mamie Gummer, is engaged to her stage actor boyfriend Ben Walker!

“He proposed two days ago,” Gummer said earlier this week. “He did it on one knee!”

Streep recently revealed that she plans to take a well-earned break from Hollywood.

“Seven movies in two and a half years,” she said. “I have never worked this hard ever. I am exhausted, I’m feeling like I need a break. Promoting movies is not fun. The most fun part is making the movies. Selling a movie is more to do with wardrobe and shoes and cleaning up and being presentable.

“I haven’t ever considered giving up acting, but I do need enforced rest in my career. When each of my children was born I took a year off. It is very nice to have time to live, gather experiences and watch other people.”

Julie and Julia has been in theaters for the past few weeks. Go see it!
