Uma Thurman: ‘Motherhood is Under-Appreciated’

Posted by Adam

Uma ThurmanUMA Thurman thinks mothers are “unsung heroes” and is glad she has made a movie showing their struggles.

The actress — who plays internet blogger and mother-of-two Eliza Welch in upcoming comedy movie Motherhood – insists people are too quick to point out the things women with children do wrong.

“Motherhood is a thing that can be terribly under-appreciated. People are very willing to heap criticism on mothers,” Uma said.

“You don’t hear that much about the successes of mothers. Mothers are unsung heroes and I think there is a very beautiful thing in making a movie about a mother.”

Uma — who has 11-year-old daughter Maya and son Levon, seven, with ex-husband Ethan Hawke — didn’t realize how much she needed to mature until she had children.

“I started growing up, or at least realized how far I had to go, when I became a mother. And then there’s the beauty of watching them grow up.”

Uma, 39, has previously admitted she struggled to “find herself” when she had kids, much like her character Eliza.

“Well, her circumstances are different, but her concerns are the same as mine,” she said. “Trying to be true to yourself as an individual and as a woman and be a loving mother and grow and find yourself — that’s the kind of thing we all deal with. I thought that was really universal.”

Uma should be addressing “parenthood”. Fortunately or unfortunately men can not bear children. But when it comes to raising your young its’ a challenge for either…..when its’ done right. Especially when your a single “parent”.
I definitely applaud moms out there everywhere it is a thankless job. But have you seen what alot of mom’s are doing today ????. What men were & are guilty of have now become common place for women.

What a laugh. Motherhood is a completely different animal for someone with Uma Thurman’s means. She can get the best child care, best insurance, put her kids in the best schools and being a highly paid actress wealthy ten times over, she CAN take off from work whenever she wants or simply not work at all.
My biggest concern is people who become mothers trying to fill some hole they have in their inner world using Uma Thurman’s platitudes as their reasoning. She is trying to sell tickets here people. It is promotion. Don’t have kids unless you can afford to be with them a lot. Otherwise, the kids suffer.
People need to grow up and be responsible bottom line. Uma Thurman has basically nothing of value to say about Motherhood as it pertains to the vast majority of every day people. That’s the reality.

Is she complaining that her kids do not appreciate her? My grandmother was my mother and I appreciate her. She probably wants a medal for chosing to have a child, get over it, deal with it is your job to take care and mother your child/children.
