Sean Penn & Castro to Discuss Obama in Cuba?

Sean PennHOLLYWOOD star Sean Penn is turning journalist for his latest role — he’s arrived in Cuba, where he hopes to interview its dictator, Fidel Castro.

The actor has already been spotted walking in the town of Nueva Gerona on the Isle of Youth with local painter Alexis Leyva.

Penn is apparently writing a story for Vanity Fair magazine about how the Obama administration has affected Cuba.

Since he became president in January, Barack Obama has eased rules about visits and money transfers to Cuba.

But so far, the US administration has not taken major strides in its approach to the Americas’ only communist regime. The Obama administration has said it will not, for now, seek to end the US economic embargo, instead urging Havana to show progress on human rights.

In July, the two countries officially restarted a dialogue on migration issues which had been suspended since 2003, and talks are also under way aimed at restarting bilateral mail service which was cut off in 1963.

According Spanish media reports, Obama recently asked Spain to send a message to Cuba urging its President Raul Castro to step up efforts to improve relations with Washington.

In June 2005, Penn Penn made a visit to Iran. Acting as a journalist on an assignment for the San Francisco Chronicle, he attended a Friday prayer at Tehran University.

What a joke…Sean Penn visiting Cuba in his Private Jet to discuss socialism or democracy. What has Obama done with CUBA??? are you kidding me…NOTHING the same he has done with every current situation. Don’t you think Sean Penn needs to worry about the GOOD OLE USA before trying to be a journalist in Cuba…HOLLYWOOD ONCE AGAIN LIVING IN A FANTASY WORLD!

  3. Gordon says:

I say let this ***hole go to Cuba. Just don’t let him back in the U.S.A. Maybe he and his “idol”, Fidel could get together and solve all the problems Cuba, has. I think not, really, since they are both “dumbasses”.

  4. Susan O'Meara says:

Sean Penn doesn’t give a rat’s ass what you losers think of him. He is a gifted actor and a man who has the courage of his convictions. What have YOU done lately, for or against your principles? Whuhhh…what’re “principles”? you ask…

Sean Penn a typical left wing Hollywood idiots…who’s the f#@* care? How about Hanoi Jane Fonda fying to Cuba and doing her kumbaya nonsense

Sean Penn is a gifted actor and much like other celebrities who dabble in world affairs,he is qualified by virtue of his impact at the box office, with no real training to fall back on.It great that they use their celebrity to call attention to world problems, but they shouldnt beleive that it gives them licence to develop policy or worse to try to insert themselves in the policy execution, beyond what they are actors. While he was celebrated for his efforts on behalf of harvey milk and is playing a big role in the Ca holiday push,he has been keenly silent on the Cesar Chavez holiday in ca,immigrant and police abuse and other issues in Los Angeles.Sean no matter what ,.you will always be “Spicoli in Fast Times.

I surely hope that Sean Penn has a plastic belly button, so he can look out when he’s got his head so far up his a–, that he has nowhere else to see through. There’s no question, that the liberties, freedom of speech, bill of rights has given him the opportunity to go out and speak his mind, yet he bashes his own country that gave him this ability since he was about 14 years old.
He should grow up, learn real history, learn just what so many millions of men and women have done to give him these very liberties and freedoms. Instead, he chooses to go and attempt to become arm and arm buddies with the most dangerous people on this planet. Maybe, just maybe, he was born in the wrong time frame, perhaps, he would have liked it better, even fit in better with Hitler, Stalin, Lennin, Kim Jung Il and such other dictators. I’d like to see him live under conditions like their people
do, just even for a day, see if he’s even got 1/100th the freedom of speech he’s got in this country, but yet, he continues to put our great country down. As far as I’m concerned, he should be exhiled to one of these countries that he cherishes so much, and believes that their ways, forms of governance are better than our own! He can kiss my ……

Who knows what Sean Penn’s motivation is for going to Iraq, Venezuela and Cuba unless you ask him personally.
I’ve been to Cuba and lived in Venezuela.
As a traveler, I learned more there about Fidel Castro, Chavez,
and Latin American History than 4 years in my college Spanish
History and Latin American Courses. In defense of Sean Penn,
I would like to add that our country has limited our knowledge of “communist countries to protect our global empire”. I think it is very important that someone of his level has the ability
to travel to Cuba and write an article for Vanity Fair. Do we want the same filtered views, which would mean our country is communist or do we want to hear and read different view points.
When I worked on a film set with Sean Penn in 1996, he was earning 5 million per movie. He is the only actor, I can think of that has never increased his “salary” I don’t see him as motivated by money or fame at this point. I think he really wants to see first hand what is happening in these countries and how he can make a positive difference in educating people that aren’t fortunate enough to go to Cuba, Iraq or Venezueala. Both Cuba and Venezuela are amazing countries on this planet, both culturally and physically. In my opinion Sean Penn doesn’t need more fame or recognition after winning 2 academy awards and not even being into the idea of awards etc…. The man is trying to find a truth that I believe is only present in the eye of the beholder. Our country has limited visual media since the Vietnam War. We should demand more realistic and visual accounts of the news stories that we see. Let’s congratulate him like we would Barbara Walters and Peter Jennings. Do we need to see everything from the perspective of Anderson Cooper and his idealist image.
Lets get real as we move into the future. Not only is Sean Penn better than Barbara Walters and Anderson Cooper, he is one of the best actors in the world and has the ability to get to high profile leaders and present a story. It’s up to us how we interpret that story. If you don’t agree with him, get your own story by going to those countries and talking with people rather than creating stereotypes.
