TAYLOR Lautner insists his shirtless scenes in Twilight sequel New Moon aren’t purely gratuitous.

The hunky star, 17, says there’s a reason he keeps taking his top off.

“There’s definitely reasons behind it for the film,” the buffed up star, who plays werewolf Jacob Black, told E! News.

“When we transform, we don’t have clothes, we have to go find our clothes. And we’re hot, we’re 108 degrees. So it’s not like we’re randomly taking our shirts off for no reason.”

Lautner recently insisted he isn’t against baring his torso for future roles.

“If there’s another character later on in life that requires [baring my torso], I’m not opposed to it,” he said, adding that he gained 30lbs of muscle for his role as Jacob in the smash hit film franchise.

“I had to be putting something in my mouth every two hours,” he said. “Meat patties, sweet potatoes, raw almonds — it’s not fun. A lot of protein.”
