Aerosmith’s Future Still ‘Up in the Air’

Steven TylerSTEVEN Tyler made an unexpected performance with his Aerosmith bandmate Joe Perry in New York City on Tuesday night — but the future of the group is still up in the air.

“I just want New York to know I’m not leaving Aerosmith,” Tyler, 61, told the cheering crowd. The band then gave an rousing performance of Walk this Way.

After the performance, Perry told People magazine that he was “totally surprised” that Tyler decided to show up.

“I had no idea he was going to show up,” Perry said. “All I know is we walked off stage and were sitting taking our break [before] the encore and there was a bunch of commotion and I looked up and Steven was there.”

Earlier this week, Perry said Tyler hadn’t been returning his phone calls, and isn’t in touch with the rest of the group either.

Joe admits the future of Aerosmith is still uncertain.

“Nothing has really changed between two days ago and today,” he said.

“We’re still Aerosmith. We don’t know what we’re gonna do. We’ve talked about all kinds of different things. Things are still up in the air.”

As for whether they will find someone to temporarily replace Tyler, he says, “I can’t say right now. We’re just getting used to the idea that he’s not going to be available for two years. Anything’s possible.”

In a recent interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Tyler said he wants to concentrate on “Brand Tyler”.
