Penelope Cruz Refuses to Address Engagement Rumors
“IS she or isn’t she?” was the question on everyone’s lips following Penelope Cruz’s appearance on David Letterman Tuesday when the talk show host asked if she’s engaged.
Rumors that Cruz, 35, is set to wed beau Javier Bardem surfaced when the actress wore a sapphire-and-diamond sparkler on her ring finger at the October premiere of Broken Embraces.
“I don’t feel comfortable talking about my private life in public,” Cruz told Letterman when he asked her point-blank if she’s gearing up to marry Bardem, 40.
Letterman pressed and Cruz continued, “I’ve been here a few times with you, you know I’m tough. One thing I don’t do, I don’t lie about my personal life,” she said. “It’s sacred to me. It’s my life. But I don’t give details about it because I am allergic to that.”
Letterman then asked, “So you know, but you don’t want to tell me?”
“I know,” Cruz replied with a giggle, “but I choose not to share some things!”
In October, it was reported that Cruz and Bardem had been telling their closest pals they’re planning to walk down the aisle in the next few months.
“They’re telling friends they will get married,” said one insider.
Cruz, 35, recently told the UK’s Psychologies magazine that she’s keen to settle down and have kids.
“I want to have babies one day but not right now. When I do it I want to do it really well. I want it to be my best project in life,” she said. “I don’t know if I believe in marriage. I believe in family, love and children.”
