PENELOPE Cruz and her beau Javier Bardem enjoyed a double date with Sean Penn and a mystery brunette Friday night.

The trio sat at a secluded table on the outside patio at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles with Penn’s date listening to their animated stories, according to RadarOnline.

Cruz sat with her back to the bar crowd in an attempt not to be recognized. But Bardem and Penn blew her cover — they were constantly laughing loudly at each other’s jokes!

“Everyone seemed to be having a good time except Penn’s date who appeared slightly subdued,” a source said.

Meanwhile, during an interview with David Letterman earlier this week, Cruz refused to address rumors she and Bardem are set to tie the knot.

Engagement rumors first surfaced when the actress, 35, wore a sapphire-and-diamond sparkler on her ring finger at the October premiere of her movie Broken Embraces.

“I don’t feel comfortable talking about my private life in public,” Cruz told Letterman when he asked her point-blank if she’s gearing up to marry Bardem, 40.

Letterman pressed and Cruz continued, “I’ve been here a few times with you, you know I’m tough. One thing I don’t do, I don’t lie about my personal life,” she said. “It’s sacred to me. It’s my life. But I don’t give details about it because I am allergic to that.”

Letterman then asked, “So you know, but you don’t want to tell me?”

“I know,” Cruz replied with a giggle, “but I choose not to share some things!”
