HOW did Penelope Cruz prepare for her role in the musical movie Nine?
“I own a karaoke machine!” the Spanish beauty told US TV show Access Hollywood. “I like doing it when I’m alone because I get shy, singing, which is more pathetic to do karaoke by yourself.
“You can really stand up and get on top of the sofa and perform the number. I’ve been caught a few times.”
Cruz says she enjoyed filming with her A-list costars, which includes Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Dame Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Kate Hudson and Fergie, among others.
“There was a really, really good energy on that set,” Penelope said. “Everybody understood that the other person was going to be nervous about singing and dancing… Everyone was fighting for the movie, fighting to tell this story.”
Nine hits movie theaters on Christmas day.
Cruz, 35, recently revealed how she used to be a “total workaholic”.
“I can rest, go traveling, have time to do nothing,” she said in August interview with Britain’s The Times. “Before I might take 15 days off in a year and try to leave my BlackBerry in my room to please my family.
“I was a total workaholic. I think that’s what I needed to do then. Now I can work, but I’m not on movie sets the whole year. I can say no until there is something I really need to do.”
