Miley Cyrus: ‘Twilight is a Cult’

Miley CyrusMILEY Cyrus has hit out at Twilight – again!

The Hannah Montana star — who recently insisted she has no intention of watching the films — says the Vampire franchise is like a “cult”.

“I think it’s like [a] cult… I think it’s a cult,” the 17-year-old said on Sirius XM’s The Morning Mash Up in an interview that aired on Tuesday (video below). “I think it’s bad. I think it’s like, just people get too into it.”

“For me,” Miley added, “I think it’s like when guys look at supermodels and they’re like, ‘That’s the perfect girl’ … That’s what those kind of movies do to us.

“They’re like thinking that’s what girls should be like and not everyone is going to be Edward, hate to say it.”

The Twilight Saga: New Moon — which hits theaters less than a week ago — has already smashed box office records.

    People, how can you hate on Miley? Like, just stop it! I don’t know what you are all, like, mad about! Miley’s like so it. Every song she sings is like, you know, like, like, like, it! Miley is my fountain of like wisdom! A true paragon of like virtue, like, like just the best like thing ever!

    Seriously, I saw the first Twilight movie. Hated it. I honestly don’t know what people saw in the film, but fine. I can’t say that I see it as a cult. Probably would be the first film that ever made it to cult-status, but ok, Miley. Whatever. I have no intention of seeing New Moon. I’m happy for those who do like it. Gives them something to look forward to next year when the third installment comes out. Be good, people.

But singing to them.. WHAT A BIATCH!! She really got a snobby attitude when she got a little famous. She needs to remember where she came from…

    and I agree with everyone else.. Shes jealous cuz Twilight is more famous then she will ever be.

    I hope you read this Miley, and GROW UP! You are going to be a one night wonder someday with that attitude, just like your daddy.

    Ok, I saw this on the front page of Yahoo! and was annoyed. I am yet to see the “Twilight” movie, and am keeping an open mind to it. That being said, for Miley Cyrus to come out and say such a thing is really uncalled for, and is an insult to the fans of the books and the movie. My impression of her is that of a snotty and spoiled brat, who can’t sing OR act. I have watched a couple of episodes of her show (“Hannah Montana”) and wow, is she just awful. She needs to take a good look in the mirror before she makes another comment like that.

    Why would she care if you say Twilight is better than her? Worry about someone else’s thoughts, that she mostly likely will not meet? I think some people need to be open minded a bit. Why should you worry about what someone else thinks about what you like? Everyone is not going to agree with you. EVERYTHING has its “hater’s”, and “lovers” of any series, book, movie, actor, etc. And every decade has an icon, right now, its Twilight. And that will fade into memories of the past, as did everything else.

    And the opinion thing, “Keep it to yourself!!! Yaddayaddayadda!” That’s not fair that some overly-rabid fans BAAAAWWWWW a little because someone commented negative about, and acting childish too when saying ” is just jealous because is hotter, or more popular!” That’s just another form of “NO U!” launched at each other. So it’s fair for you to scream at the top of your lungs (which is, YES, annoying to some people, regardless of what you yell)? And not fair for someone to voice their opinion negatively?

    Okay, off that topic… My point is. WHO SHOULD YOU CARE OF WHAT SOMEONE ELSE THINKS?! Their opinion isn’t killing you literally, so just ignore it.

    I’m not standing up for either side. Because I truly don’t like Twilight or Miley Cyrus.

    I see that it’s perfectly OK for teens to love her TV show, pay hundreds of dollars for her concerts, go see HER movie, and buy her merchandise; which includes shirts and watches. When it comes to liking something else or looking forward to a movie she has to call it a cult. Just another southern idiot with a microphone in her hands.

    Edw, I can agree with your anger about her calling Twilight a cult, which I thought was a gross exageration. However, your critique of her being “another southern idiot” is uncalled for. I’m from Georgia, and, speaking on behalf of other southerners, would prefer for you to keep your criticism of Cyrus on your disagreement with her. Unless, of course, you hate southerners, which would make you a bigot, far worse than Miley and anything she said. Stick with the source of the disagreement, and you show your intelligence. Stray from it, just so you can make a silly attack, and you show your stupidity. Everyone should try to nourish their intelligent side over their stupidity.

    (Ok, people pleeeease note I HATE Miley frickin’ Cyrus a lot, understatement, and I am not defending her, just proving a point.)
    This whole thing has been totally blown out of proportion. Really, one silly little rich girl’s opinion is gonna start this much of a arguement? I personally DO like Twilight but I do think it’s reputation has become kinda crazy with the whole crazy, screaming fan thing (for instance, poor Rob Pattinson nearly getting hit by a taxi because of them…). But to put it simply, if you like Twilight that much, you shouldn’t really care about what people (especially stupid people *cough* MILEY *cough*) think about it.

    I just gained a lot of respect for Miley. As a teen figurehead, it’s her responsibility to speak out against things that are wrong, and Twilight is WRONG. It teaches girls that abusive, stalking boyfriends are ‘romantic’. Good job, Miley. I’ll be sure to buy something of yours in the future.

    First of all, she is an idiot. Every other word was “like,” which proves her intelligence level is not but so high. Maybe she should take time out of her busy schedule and read a book. I think that she would understand why we all like Twilight so much.
    And she is just mad that Dakota Fanning got a part in the movie, and she didn’t. :( lol.

    Okay, first of all, I am not a fan of Miley Cyrus OR Twilight. In fact, I hate them both. Just because she is “famous” she doesn’t have a right to an opinion? Last time I checked she lived in America! When I read this on the front page of Yahoo, I was so glad that Miley Cyrus has a brain. What’s so great about Twilight anyways? Sparklng vampires? How Meyer wrote 500+ pages of crap describing Edward’s eyes? Why does Edward like Bella anyways? Because she smells nice.

    And Meyer says she got the idea from a ‘dream’. Yeah, she read some Anne Rice and then dreamed about the book. Go read some real vampire literature. Books about vampires that don’t sparkle or about angsty-teenage girls who jump off a cliff when their boyfriend’s leave them.

    ok so miley cyrus does have some talent, I will admit… and honestly her movie wasnt half bad… but seriously i have loved twilight since before all the stupid screaming girls got into it. I was the one who introduced it to most of my friends and it is my favorite books… i understand that some people take it a little overboard with their screaming and being obsessed with rob and taylor but that doesnt mean that it is like a cult… i paid money to go see new moon and twilight and they obviously werent as great as the books but r they ever??? i mean i was disapointed in harry potter movies also… but they were good movies and if i watched them before reading the books they would have been perfect but it is just ridiculous that some stupid 16 year old twangy star has the guts to dis the most loved series in america and personally i just think that she is jealous because she cant have taylor lautner and taylor swift gets him… and taylor cant even sing… she just wants all the attention on herself just like a stupid selfish two-year-old… its ridiculous… –Kaley!

    I really like what Miley Cyrus had to say about Twilight. I used to not like Miley at all, because all I would hear from girls is Miley this and Miley that, but now that I see where she stands on the Twilight issue, I have more respect for her because she is not acting on the notion that she has to appeal to every girl out there. I honestly like Miley now because she is her own person, and is not falling under the category that I would like to call “All girls are the same”.

    i dont think miley is jealous cuz she probably got more famous than twilight cuz shes been around for longer but i luv both her and twilight but she cuz atleast be gracious like selena cuz selena said she was sorry even when she only said she hadnt watched and selena has twilight friends. i dont think its disney vs twilight cuz demi lovato is a fan and booboo stuart (seth) and jackson rathbone (jasper) were both managed by disney.

    Seriously people, she is just expressing her opinions… just because she is a superstar doesn’t mean she cannot express her thoughts. Though she could have better phrase her sentences but overall it wasnot harsh.

    Those comments about her being jealous are so irritating when I read it. Come on, singing is her forte and there is currently only 1 HM movie and to compare with (going to be) 4 twilight movies…
