Adam Lambert: ‘I Had Self-Esteem Issues Into my Twenties’

Posted by Adam

Adam LambertADAM Lambert admits he had self-esteem into his early twenties.

The openly-gay American Idol runner-up — who caused controversy with his racy performance at the recent American Music Awards — says he often felt like he couldn’t be himself.

“I never wore full-on eyeliner in high school, but I wanted to,” the 27-year-old singer said in a recent interview with the USA Today newspaper. “I wanted to wear nail polish so bad, but I was afraid to. I was afraid to express myself for a while.

“I didn’t feel attractive in high school. I had self-esteem issues into my early 20s. I was a little overweight, I had skin problems. As I learned to feel attractive from the inside out, my self-worth got better.”

Lambert — whose debut album, For Your Entertainment, hit stores at the start of the week — recently revealed that he’s “constantly f*cking buying music”.

“I’m a freak with iTunes,” he told Rolling Stone magazine. “I’m constantly f*cking buying music. I love listening to whatever’s new and fresh, and I’ll go back and explore.

“I went through a period of time where all I was listening to was stuff from the late Sixties, the whole flower power f*ckin’ psychedelic hippie-type music, like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Beatles. I remember at one point I was listening to a lot of disco. I love disco music, anyone who doesn’t love disco, I don’t know?

“I love dance music, I’ve always loved dance music. I think anything with a good beat that makes you feel like getting ready for the evening, going to work, in the gym, it’s inspiring, it makes you feel good. It makes you move and it makes you want to feel sexy and flirt with somebody and have a drink. There’s a lot of that on the record, because I love that.”

If you have followed Adam from the beginning of AI you know he is a nice person with mega talent. Keep tha positive energy going and ignore the negative. Keep your perspective and vision and shut out the Aarons and hate people of the world. I hope that you will achieve the success that you so deserve.

I love Adam. It’s hard to believe he had self esteem issues, because gay or not, he has to be one of the sexiest men I have ever seen or heard. His talent will take him far and I wish the best for him. Was his performance on the AMAs racy? Yeah, it went a little over-board, but you can’t help but watch him anyway and love his voice. Loved the suit and hair, by the way. Hot!

oh! adam you are a different person now, just be yourself, sing for the people, sing for the world. you are very entertaining and you inspire people i like the way you give interviews, articulate, smart and full of sense of humour. move on adam, forget about AMA’s incident, make a fresh start, stay focused on your music and do not worry about what other people say. like what you say, you are who you are and we like you for who you are. you do not need to do extra to attract an attention, you already have the attention of the world because of your talent.
