Penelope Cruz Doubted Her Physical Abilities While Filming ‘Nine’

PENELOPE Cruz was doubtful she’d be able to shoot some of the scenes in her new movie Nine.
The Spanish actress, 35, says she had to use muscles she hadn’t used since she was a teenager in order to slide down a rope.
“They mapped it out and showed me how it was done,” Cruz said of one scene.
“I said I would never be able to do it but I worked and worked and regained the memory of muscles in my legs I hadn’t used since I was a teenager studying ballet.
“I was stretching, running and going to the gym to get my arms strong to support me on the ropes. But with my hands, after a while you don’t feel the pain. I had the wounds dressed and carried on.”
Nine — which also stars Dame Judi Dench, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson and Fergie — hits theaters December 25.
Cruz — who’s rumored to be engaged to longtime beau Javier Bardem — recently revealed she’s not very good in the kitchen.
“I can cook a little bit,” she said. “I can cook a few Spanish dishes but it looks, in movies, that I cook much better than I cook.
“The things I can make, can taste pretty bad. I am not the most organized person in the kitchen but I took a lot of lessons.
“But my lessons were more like to be the assistant of a chef so I could learn to cut the vegetables very fast. I can do all of those things really well but then I’m not that good at cooking.”
