GERARD Butler admits he’s scared of commitment.

The Scottish actor — who recently told a female fan to “f*** off” after she groped his bottom — blames the fact he can’t stay in a long-term relationship on his father not being around during his childhood.

“I act very awkward when I am with women. Perhaps that’s because my mother brought me up alone,” Butler told Joy magazine. “My father gambled away all our money and eventually went bankrupt.

“So one night our family had to flee head-over-heels to Canada. At that time, my mother was five months pregnant with me. Shortly after my second birthday, my father let us down. It is said that men who grow up without a father have a fear of commitment.”

Despite his commitment problems, Butler — who recently celebrated his 40th birthday — has previously admitted he’d life to have a wife and kids.

“I would love to have a wife and kids, but you can’t magic them out of thin air,” he said in August in this year. “I’ve never been that ’seven-year relationship’ kind of guy. [But I'm ready] for the big relationship.

“I guess I’ve got to settle down soon, but I’m nervous to say it out loud because it might not happen.”
