PENELOPE Cruz tried her best not to get hurt while filming her upcoming musical movie Nine.

The actress says she had to be constantly alert to avoid any safety hazards.

“[Avoiding injury] was my main worry because my number stars on a slide that is like forty meters high,” Cruz told Fox News. “You really don’t see that in the film, but you cannot appreciate how high it was but there were a few risks … It demands for you to be totally present and totally alert so that you don’t get hurt, but it [gives you a feeling of being] alive.

“I was nervous and scared, but I was well protected. You know, we had the best dancers that were training with us. In my case, I had three months of preparation.

“I didn’t want the marks [that I got on my hands] from the ropes to go away because they were like my little medals, you know, from the number. But of course they were in the way. I was so used to them after three months of training, you don’t  even feel the physical pain anymore. You go into a different [place].”
