FUNNYMAN Ricky Gervais made his hosting debut at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards Sunday night.

He was very, very funny!

And the British comedian drew even more laughs — and gasps! — when he took his hosting gig as an opportunity to roast Mel Gibson.

The 48-year-old drank a glass of beer on stage and admitted to the audience that he had already “had a couple” pints.

“I’m not going to lie to you, I hope I’ve not offended anyone — It’s not my fault,” he said before pointing to his beer. “I like a drink as much as the next man, unless the next man is Mel Gibson!”

Gervais’ crack drew a strong reaction from the likes of Diane Kruger, Fergie and Josh Duhamel.

Gibson — who was charged with drunk driving in 2006 — took the jab in stride. As the actor, 54, came out to present the award for Best Director, he laughed it off, pretended to slur his words and made a joke of his own.

“I’m here to talk about Inglourious Basterds,” he said. “Or as actors like to call them, directors!”
