Rihanna: ‘My New Album is a Classic’

RihannaRIHANNA thinks her latest album Rated R is a “classic”.

The Russian Roulette singer insists the LP — the follow-up to 2007’s Good Girl Gone Bad — is edgier and is more personal than her other releases.

“We made a great album, which was my intention in the first place. That makes this a classic album for me,” she said.

“It’s very edgy. Good Girl Gone Bad was all about me at that point of my life. It had attitude and an edge and this next album takes it up a notch.

“I want to evolve and keep changing and I want my music to reflect that.”

With her new musical direction the 21-year-old star has evolved her style, although Rihanna is adamant it was not a conscious decision to make herself sexier.

The pop beauty — who has previously admitted many of the things on the album were inspired by her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown — said, “A lot of people say to me, ‘You got sexier. Your image has changed.’ But that really isn’t it. I’m just dressing how I feel. I’m more comfortable in my skin. I basically dress to my mood.

“There are times when I like to dress up and be very sexy and feminine and then other times I’m like a tomboy because I just want to wear something comfortable.”

    no not a classic …..it could have been but the singles are chosen to be hits but then failed with equal not a classic … she should have released the sad songs instead then it would have been one of the biggest classic’s of pop …

    & fyi the way she said i think she meant it as in personal to her not in a ‘classic’ in pop culture kinda thing.

    I like her, but no way is that album a classic.
    I think it kind of sucks. I like her Good Girl Gone Bad album better.

    Everyone has their own opinions. I don’t believe in bashing an artist for their creative work. I personally think this is her best album to date. She has matured in a lot of ways. Before, she was simply another pop artist with catchy songs and no creativity. This album is by far one of my favorites of this year already. It definitely may not be a classic album but it is still a good one. It seems to me like she was stating her personal opinion, not a generalization.

    I usually absolutely HATE Rihanna songs until they are overplayed enough to where I like them moderately, but her new song HARD is probably the worst song I have ever heard. Hard really just shows she is just trying too hard.

    it is truelly her best work and i think she has evolved into a real artist now. gggb was a hit but this was personal and real. and the songs got meaning and emotions to back them up. e.g fire bomb who ever sang about revenge that way.

    rihanna’s new album is nowhere near as good as her previous ones; she sounds like she’s DYING in all her songs! this is probably her worst album yet.

    She always sounds like a strangled goat when she sings or should I say bleats? And there’s zero emotion in any of her manufactured songs. What she has is looks – just like Brittney – and she’ll never be more than that as a artist.

    A classic? What is wrong with you guys? She ain’t no damn classic. She was never a great artist and now the only reason she’s getting so much attention is cuz Chris beat her ugly ass. It was wrong yes, but that doesn’t make her music any better. I’m sick of seeing her face everywhere. There are others out there with WAY more talent.

    When I 1st heard Rated R I thought Oh God this is bad.. I kept comparing it to Good Girl Gone Bad which I thought was a GREAT album.. But then after a while I forced myself to listen to it again.. It was like,hey,this is quite good.. AFter that I listened to it a few more times,n now I’m hooked..

    It defnitely grows on u.. It’s a lot different from her past albums.. Not so many obvious radio hits n pop songs..
    A lot of the songs have meaning to them instead of songs like Shut Up n Drive,which I loved,but didnt really have meaning..
    Stupid In Love,Cold Case Love,Hard,Te Amo,Wait Ur Turn,The LAst Song,RockStar 101,I love all these songs.. Sure,theyre not exactly radio friendly,but open ur mind n u may just find that theyre really great songs..

    i loved rihanna when she 1st came out.. who remember’s “Music of the Sun”? I loved that innocent rihanna. but now…, now she’s pushing herself. i mean her songs are good, but honestly i think she’s pushing her creativity to far to fast. rihanna there is no rush. and since you have, kind of rushed things now, your album isnt your BEST works, but it’s still good. in some ways i wish she would go back to “Music of the Sun”… but i can only dream right? lol. well i hope she gets better, but honestly, where’s she’s headed i don’t know if i’ll be a fan much longer.
