GOLDIE HAWN WANTS TO SET UP BUDDHIST SCHOOL IN THE UK; HAS SUPPORT OF CONSERVATIVE PARTY

Posted by Richard Head

Goldie HawnGOLDIE Hawn wants to set up a Buddhist school in the UK.

The Death Becomes Her actress runs educational charity The Hawn Foundation in the US, which teaches children the Buddhist technique of Mindfulness training, which instead of testing young people instead encourages them to make social and emotional progress, and it is hoped her ideas can be used to set up similar establishments in Britain.

“We need to rethink our whole approach to classroom education, integrating neuroscience with the latest social and emotional learning techniques,” Goldie said.

“A peaceful, happy child is the first step towards a peaceful world.”

The 64-year-old star has been approached by the Conservative Party, who want her to help with their education policies if they are elected into power.

Conservative education secretary Michael Gove said, “We are meeting to discuss how she might be able to help education here.

“We need more new schools outside local authority control to challenge the bureaucratic monopoly. Some parents would want a rigorous traditional academic education for their children with desks neatly marshaled and traditional football. Others will want something that is more flexible, more imaginative.”

Why not the USA Goldie? Why not start a buddhist schools from young people throughout the U.S. I don’t understand why every celebrity wants to help other countries other than their own.

Taxes…this adm. wants to fleece Amer.

  • sorry

is she buddhist? didn’t know that…

  • Mike

How about letting God back in our schools? Buddha is okay but God is not? Our educational system began to go on a downward trend when any reference to God began being banned. Does anyone else see any correlation?

    • http://yahoo jane

You lack a vision and ability to broaden your horizons.
Read and educate yourself and perhaps you will do rather than talk.

      • MIKE

Jane, you lack the ability to fully comprehend that a belief in God (not Buddah, or other false religions) is the foundation upon which this country was founded. The deletion of God from all facets of society has only served to create a populace that embraces the lowest common denominators of behavior.

      • Jenny

God is a God of vision. His visions are why the universe and it’s many complexities and infinite minute detials are here! You can gather all the knowledge you want. Education is good. But JUST knowledge without wisdom and revelation is not much more than a narrowed view based on
facts alone. There is so much MORE to this life!!
You want to broaden your horizons? Try getting to know the one true God. He’ll take you places you’ve never dreamed of!

      • Denise

PRAISE THE LORD MIKE!!!!!! Keep on doing the job you do. Your labor is not in vain!!!

“You lack a vision and ability to broaden your horizons.

I teach 7th graders about God every day. I have the best job in the world. God’s using me to give our youth the “one thing needful”. I love what I “Do”. Nice “talking” with you, Jane.

    • Jenny

I definitely see the correlation. It all goes along with the many other activities that were prophesied centuries ago.

  • jponshock

Actually it would be a lot better if the country went back to what it was founded on,CHRISTIAN principles. The country started going downhill when it walked away from that back in the early 70′s. Seems to me people have forgotten GOD and it’s showing in our economy, how our children lack discipline to the crap on t.v. Wht not try a Christian twist instead of a BOGUS Buddha!

  • Pam

CONSERVATIVE!? The Conservative Party is NOT known for their ideas on Buddhism. In fact, nothing can be further than the truth! Am I missing something here? Or, is this just bad journalism? I thought Goldie and Kurt were Democrats. Although, I could be wrong. However, the religious right is FAR from the practice of Buddhism. I don’t get it at all.

    • Joan

Party affiliation has nothing to do with liberal or conservative.

  • nancyenke

WHY WOULD GOLDIE WANT TO REJECT THE ONLY TRUE AND LIVING GOD? HE IS OUR ONLY HOPE IN THIS WORLD AND IN ETERNITY , SHE AND ALL UNBELIEVERS WILL SADLY FIND THIS OUT TOO LATE.

    • ChuckD

Um, maybe because of intolerant attitudes like yours which seem to prevail in Christianity (and Judaism, and Islam)?

My 7 year old daughter is now in her third year in a MindUP oriented school. She has absolutely no idea of Buddha, or Siddhartha, or anything spiritual. But she and her schoolmates are all a pretty well-adjusted bunch attending a very mainstream-looking school. There’s no graffiti on the walls, there are few fights and a level of creativity and mental energy you won’t find in a “normal” public school.

And why in God’s name are you yelling?

      C.

  • Cyn

Yeah, why not here, in the USA?

  • sdmallory

First it was Tom Cruise and the Scientology crap and now,Goldie and her Buda, Whats to come next ! Boy when christ comes back there will be alot people burning in hell.

    • TheRock

Do you guys, who are against buddhism, know anything about this religion? Try to learn other people religion instead of bashing it. Seriously does God teach you to hate on other religions! I see the maturity that you people gain from God and the Bible because your ignorance is distasteful and disrespectful. FIRST, educate yourselves and LEARN to spell other religions correctly. its BUDDHA, BUDDHISM… not budha, buddah or booda. Secondly, don’t ever compare religions to one another. every religion is unique, good or bad. Like the saying, “treat other like you would want to be treated,” don’t contradict your TEACHING

  • http://yahoo joebuit

God is once again out and budda is in his grave but Jesus defeated the grave our founding fathers started somthing that no outher country can come close to. Goldie you have good intention but budda is NOT it.

  • Openminded

The Buddhist principals are an excellent way to enhance the current educational system but these principals are not unique to Buddhism. These ideals and principals are the foundation of all religions and were once incorporated into the educational systems in the United States. Unfortunately the athists got upset with the word God so all associated with God was removed. Now the schools are being indoctrinated with “open mindedness”, “inclusiveness” and “equality” except when it comes to Christians.

  • http://diskoftheworld.com Claire

Buddhism offers a path to self-realization and that’s something you are not gonna get from Christianity which spends too much time looking for more followers/converts. You can stand on your own soulwise with help from Buddhism, and your resultant vibration of peace and love will resonate with the highest spiritual powers=God. And Goldie’s right, that is the best chance for peace of earth, the planet with a destiny.

  • Albert

    What sect? NSA??

  • http://yahoo Linda R Carter

I am a born again saved Christian. I pray for our USA every day. I thank God every day for this nation (and it is still a Christian nation.) If God’s children do not stand up and make their voices heard for Him then the small percentage of the rest will rule our country and cause its downfall. It seems to me it is headed in that direction under this “government” at a very fast pace. I will continue to pray for our ONE NATION UNDER GOD.

  • Jenny

It’s odd how this country sometimes turns to actors and actresses to define “the truth” and to determine who God is. Seriously now, consult Goldie Hawn on re-vamping our educational system? Come on! She’s hardly qualified for such a huge responsibility! Just look at her own life.
Millions of people are already deceived enough. Look at Oprah – she is revered as a great sage of this world. Anything she shares on her show is taken in by millions as “the truth” and the way it really is. Give me a break… what craziness is that?

  • Kris

Some Buddhist! She and her daughter, Kate Hudson, are among the insensitive and offensive to PETA Fur Wearing Hollywood crowd! Maybe her publicist should whip up some truly spiritually aware activities for her to gloss her image over with.

  • Joan

Buddhists don’t worship Buddha. They implement his teachings into everyday life. And unlike Christians, don’t condemn others for different ways of thinking / worshipping.
Reading Dalai Lama’s teachings are very enlightening, down to earth non fanatical. Praying is meditation, there are parallels throughout, we need to open our minds and our children’s minds. There are many ways to look at life and deal with it in different ways through all religions, beliefs and faith.

  • Just Me

    Oprah
    Tom Cruise
    Suzanne Sommers
    Madonna

The list of “celebrities” with undue influence goes on and on. Some people (I call them sheep,) live and breathe by the words/opinions of Oprah. Suddenly Madonna’s “religious” beliefs (lol) become a new fad and everyone and their mother is wearing their wrist band to display their commitment devotion! Some women actually buy into the advice of publicity hound and nut-job Sommers versus their own MD’s.

Turn your back on God and it’s no wonder there are so many “searching for answers.”

  • Teri

By the way this country was not founded on “Christian” beliefs. People came here for freedom of religion. So people have the right to believe in who or what they choose. And anyone who tries to push their beliefs on another, in my opinion, should learn to to mind their own business.

  • http://Yahoo.com Misty

God will punish all liberals on Judgment Day and they will all burn in hell into perpetuity!

    • lala

And you are going to be there with them burning and screaming because you judged others the way you wanted to be judged instead of loving and forgiving. Judge not lest ye be judged.

  • Joan

Look up the word ‘liberal’ it relates to freedom. I don’t think god would approve of your hateful attitude, from what I gathered from the bible, was a peaceful, healing man.

  • Anne

Yes, God gave us the freedom, the free will to choose between right & wrong, between good & bad. And how He wishes we make the right choice! For He is that right choice. It saddens Him to see us looking for answers in the wrong places — even in what famous actors/actresses have to say and in what they suddenly believe in!

Yes, God wants for us to live in a peaceful existence. And only He can fill our hearts & minds with the kind of peace that this world cannot fully satisfy. Why search for the right answers elsewhere when God is just a prayer away? God bless!!

  • Calvin Taylor

Goldie Hahn is just an actress…thats all..she is an expert on NOTHING…”stars” and their admirers forget this fact..she is not a spiritual leader, she is not a brilliant mind, she is not a stateswoman, she is a fair actress,at best..so why when she speaks,do these people thing pearls of great wisdom will flow forth..and why,if she wants to help children so much, why doesnt she do it here, where she lives, her home, the country that has given her fame and wealth…

    • lala

She’s just like you and me. Cool. What I have to say is good too. She isn’t doing it here because she was not INVITED to do it here. She was invited by the brits.

    • Joan

If you had read the article, she does have establishment in the U.S., she is looking to establish another in U.K. To teach mindfulness…something adults should learn as well.

  • erc

Buddhists will be the first to tell you that you can meditate on an image of Jesus or Buddha and achieve the same results. Compassion is not limited to any religion or person, if it was God would not be omnipresent. He includes and forgives everyone so I would think you would follow that example. Goldie is not a nun, but I would rather have her spearhead something meaningful and then turn it over to qualified people, which she will, than complain that things aren’t working and not do anything about it. We do have God in our Private schools which is a great freedom to have. This country was not founded on religious principals it was founded on the peacemaker laws of the Native Americans. Ben Franklin and John Rutludge of South Carlina based the Constitution on the Iroquois League of Nations system which had been running as a democracy for 100′s of years before the formation of the United States. They are not Christian principals, but Natural pricipals inherent to the peacefulness found in all persons.

Amendment 1 – Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791. Note

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

    • allandone

meaning no one religion in the U.S.A
you may resume frothing with your hateful gods love

  • tom

hi goldie, i use to be a fan but now i know you don’t know or fear the real God i say take your buddhist bullshit as far out of this country as you can,see ya

    • lala

My teachers would never let me put down someone elses beliefs. I would never go to a church that didn’t teach tolerance and love for my fellow humans. I suggest you find a better minister …if you go to church at all.

  • Joan

Beautifully stated. Freedom of speech, religion, press……..
I love living in the United States, having the freedom to think, speak and practice any religion, not one religion is better than another, each is different and the beauty is we get to choose without being put to death.
Some countries if you speak against anything you don’t agree with it is a death sentence. Enjoy your freedom.

  • Joan

“Beautifully stated” was directed to allandone’s comment.

  • VR

Why not incorporate ALL types of religion into our schools? We have had the Christian faith yet not all children belong to Christian churches. Or at least give students the option to participate and incorporate these beliefs into their curriculum. I hear what Goldie is saying here, I just wish we could become more progressive in the US and realize that the old way of doing things is no longer working for us. Peace would be a wonderful change and help us to turn out more well rounded students, emotionally and intellectually.

  • Ginger

Our entire country, our American dream, what American was was destroyed because we allowed a few to remove God from our country. Without him we will never be the same. Also God loves Democrats and Republicans, surprise, surprise.

  • Jen

I love Jesus; His mercy endures forever. Buddah, nor any other religion, can ever save you from death like my God can. :)

    • lala

You really don’t know this for sure since you have never attempted to understand that if God is omnipresent he is in Buddha too.

  • Dawn Perez

First of all, this country was build on FREEDOM, not religion. And, Ms Hawn is Jewish. Jews don’t believe there is a Hell and that GOD is a forgiving and loving GOD. All you religious do-gooders out there take a hint. The only reason there has to be a separation of Church and State is because the law makers in this country are SWAYED by their religious beliefs. You must follow the law in this country and not be swayed by whatever GOD you believe in because every god seems to have a different idea on how people should behave and whether right is right or left is right…….Believe in yourselves, America and you will find the answer…..

    • Joan

Very well put! I agree. Buddhism isn’t a religion as much as a philosophy.

  • Joan

I agree with VR. Lets have all religions, let the children choose what they are comfortable with believing. Instead of shoving one way down their throats, open to all ways of thinking.
Goldie has every right exercising her freedom to do what she wants where she wants. Judging isn’t our place as people.
I don’t believe our American dream was destroyed, change is good, the shift we are going through was long overdue. We learn and go on.
    Peace to everybody!!

  • joan

Jesus Christ has been persecuted more than any other God on earth and in history. If that doesn’t tell you he is the one true living God then nothing will. You can achieve the same peace of mind if you truly understand the teachings of Christ and stop living under the condemnaiton of the law. “I am the way, the truth and the life and no man comes unto the Father but by me”. Boy there are going to be a bunch of surprised people.

    • lala

      Including you.

  • David

The absolute ignorance of people in the 21st century astounds me. God is a state of mind not an invisible man somewhere who is going to bail you out of a jam. If there is a supreme being, said being has nothing to do with your everyday life. You are in this manifestion to figure things out on your own, and if you dont, you go back on the wheel of life to learn the lesson you did not in this life. And the lesson is thus: Treat ALL things with love and compassion and understanding. Friends and Those who you may choose to call enemies must be treated with love. Return not anger with anger, but with compassion and understanding. This is the core of the buddism. Which I must state, is NOT a religion, religions cause violence always has and always will. Religion has NO place in schools or government, period. And by the way The United States of America was founded on slavery and blood, not God.

  • Joan

Please note, that joan isn’t me….I have a capital “J”…..I don’t want to be mistaken for ignorant statements.
Notice I said ignorant not stupid. Ignorant is lack of knowledge. Education is the key to understanding what was written, truth and what has been taken out of context. Twisting a statement to mean what you want isn’t history.
I think Jesus would be disappointed in the hatred and narrow mindedness of people following his word. We have to live under the law, take what is given using your ‘intelligence filter’ making your own decisions after learning all the facts.
    Again, Peace!

  • Bill Andrews

We don’t need Budda in anything, especially our schools.
Christ Jesus is the only God and the only one we need in anything. Furthermore, buddism only leads to hell and eternal suffering. Faith in Christ’s finished work on the Cross is the ONLY way to salvation and a peaceful, successful education system. There is no debating this truth.

  • Joan

You sound really angry. You are comparing God and Buddha, Buddhists don’t ‘worship’ Buddha. He is not a God…he was a man who found enlightenment and passed the word to others.
We should teach children they have a choice in life. Life is not black and white, right and wrong, there is alot of gray.
Goldie wants to teach mindfulness, not a religion. Get a grip. If you have that attitude around children you would scare them.

  • Jake

Teaching Buddhist techniques is not necessarily teaching Buddhism, although, from reading some of these replies, it could do nothing but help. Despite the supposed freedom of religion available in the states, it is apparent that some of these loving christians, would make it safer to open such a school in an islamic country–it’s no wonder she chose the U.K..

I believe in what Goldie is doing is right. I read what some of the people wrote and some were very cruel in what they said to her. I’m 62 I have always liked her as a actress. Just saw one of her movies last Saturday Deceived which it is one of my favorites. I myself believe in God, he has created us all we all are different. Our reason for us being here is to love and help one another anyway we can. Sometimes it is very difficult to do just that especially when that person or persons keep on hurting us. Our higher power helps us in the trouble times we face day after day. The sad things that go on that we can’t control. Goldie, is doing what her heart and mind are telling her to do. Don’t judge her,let God or Buddhists do that. Bless you Goldie

  • Ann

Aren’t we really glad that Jesus taught us that we would be confronted by false God’s and their followers.

In my mind the 10 Commandments and the Golden Rule covers it all.God says in HIS WORD that adulters will have an unsound mind. Did any of you read the list of Stars who know so much that we should listen to them? Thank You Jesus, for warning us with the truth of God’s Word.

  • Anjana

Buddhism is a philosophy rather than a religion,no harm would be done if you live according to it. It’s peace and non violence unlike islam.

  • Jewels

I think this is a fabulous idea. The amount of schools in the UK and i haven’t found one in my area that shows any signs that Buddhism is alive in todays society.

My self and my partner are both practicing buddhists and would love our children to attend such a school. I hope that this does come off.

    Thanks to Goldie.
