Helena Bonham CarterHELENA Bonham Carter says she’s become a “better actor” with age.

The 43-year-old star — who made her name playing upper-class characters in period dramas, kick-starting her career in the 1986 adaptation of E. M. Forster‘s A Room With A View, before starring in critically-acclaimed films Howards End and The Wings of The Dove — told Britain’s Guardian newspaper that she’s glad she’s older because she no longer has to play the “corset sex symbol.”

“Aging has helped hugely,” she said. “There’s no question I’m a better actor, and you leave behind a certain typecasting.

“I was like the corset bimbo. Well, not quite bimbo, but you know what I mean. The corset sex symbol, I suppose. Now I’m not going to be the sex symbol, I’m going to be the granny.”

    Helena Bonham Carter was and still is a women who is as stunning and intellectual on the inside as she is beautiful and dreamy on the outside. A fondness which began the first time I saw her act in my twenties and remains to date an opinion unchanged now that I approach fifty.

    I’ve always found her very attractive; in a corset or not. In the period films that really made her name she did such a wonderful job at such an early age she became a bit type-cast because she very much “looked the part” of a Victorian sex symbol; fair and sweet, yet sharp and cute. I agree with her assessment totally. I don’t think she’s quite ready to portray grandmothers just yet, but she should knock more mature roles out of the park.
