Alec Baldwin Surprised to Get Oscars Call

ALEC Baldwin admits he was shocked when he got the call to host the Oscars.
“Adam Shankman called me to ask if I’d [host] with Steve Martin, and I had to make sure he had the right number,” the 30 Rock actor said at a Fordham Law School event at the Time Warner Center on Wednesday night.
“So I said, ‘You know who you’re calling, right? This is 212,’ ” he said, laughing.
Baldwin says the call made him grateful he didn’t become a lawyer, his original career path.
“I didn’t know if I wanted to join a field that was becoming as crowded and choked as law was,” he said to the room full of wannabe attorneys.
Alec — who stars opposite Meryl Streep in the recent flick It’s Complicated — says he doesn’t think his three brothers would have followed him into law, as they did acting.
“Oh, good God, no. They wouldn’t have become lawyers,” Baldwin insisted. “I’d probably be representing them right now. But I do think they saw me acting and thought, ‘If he can do it, we can do it.’ More accurately, maybe it would be, ‘if S—head can do it, we can do it.’ ”
The 82nd Academy Awards take place at Los Angeles’ Kodak Theatre on March 7.
