CHELSEA CLINTON PLANNING A BIG FAT JEWISH WEDDING?

Chelsea ClintonCHELSEA Clinton is reportedly planning a Jewish wedding.

Chelsea — the daughter of former President Bill and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton — and her Jewish fiance, Marc Mezvinsky, 32, announced their engagement in November and told friends they were looking to a possible summer ceremony.

Bill is a Southern Baptist; Hilary is a churchgoing Methodist. Chelsea grew up attending Methodist church with her mother.

The bride and groom have a range of choices, including conversion or a melding their two traditions into one ceremony.

“If they had a Jewish wedding officiated by a rabbi, I think that would be something really positive,” said Ed Case, president of InterfaithFamily.com, which supports Jewish outreach to interfaith couples. “It’s so important for the Jewish community to have interfaith couples engaging in Jewish life.”

Rabbi Steven Carr Reuben of Kehillath Israel, a Reconstructionist congregation in Pacific Palasades, Calif., said even if Chelsea doesn’t have a Jewish wedding or convert, she should still be considered part of the community.

“There are Jews by birth and Jews by choice and Jews by association,” said Reuben, who has officiated at interfaith weddings for years and presided at the 2003 vow renewal of Ozzy Osbourne and his wife, Sharon, whose father is Jewish. “She’s marrying into the Jewish family.”

Hilary recently revealed that her daughter is still searching for a wedding dress.

“I don’t have a dress yet, and Chelsea doesn’t either,” she said last month. “We’re working on it.”

    So what if they’ll have a jewish wedding. what difference does it make? I’ve been married to my husband for 40yrs. him as a baptist and I’m catholic. we’re married in the Baptist church, and we’re blessed w three beautiful children, and three beautiful grandkids. and we’re looking forward to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. My point is, it doesn’t matter what religion you will be united. the most important is your love and devotion to one another. Chelsea deserved all the best thing in the world, and she found it from Marc. So, lets all be happy for them. Again, Congrats Chelsea n Marc.

    Congrats to you Chelsea. We Nigerians, and Africans in general, love your Dad. Up till this day, whenever he visits anywhere in Africa, he is treated affectionately, more or less like he was still the US President. He had his faults (who doesn’t), but he is a very good man. Congrats to your Mum too. Her grace was shown many years ago when she forgave your Dad, her husband. She showed that same grace again when she pleasantly conceeded defeat to Obama in 2008 (in spite of the intensely competitive and often bitter primaries fight), and then graciously accepted to serve in his administration. She stands out indeed as a great woman and a role model for all decent people worldwide. As for Marc being a Jew, does it really matter?
