TATUM O’NEAL LEFT FURIOUS OVER FARRAH FAWCETT OSCAR EXCLUSION

Posted by Adam

Tatum O'NealTATUM O’Neal is furious that The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to failed to include Farrah Fawcett in its Oscars memorial segment.

“On behalf of myself, my father, Ryan O’Neal, and my entire family, we are deeply saddened that a truly beautiful and talented actress Farrah Fawcett was not included in the memorial montage during the 82nd Academy Awards,” Tatum said in a statement.

“We are bereft with this exclusion of such an international icon who inspired so many for so many reasons. Beautiful, talented Farrah will never be forgotten by her family and amazing fans.”

Farrah died June 25 (2009) after losing her lengthy battle with cancer. She was 62. For many her death was eclipsed by that of Michael Jackson on the same day.

The Academy, meanwhile, refuses to apologize for missing Farrah but featuring Jackson, who had far less movie experience.

“I would not say that it was an oversight,” Leslie Unger, spokeswoman for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, told E! News. “No matter how carefully and how conscientiously people address who is included, there are people who just simply can’t be.

“In any given year there will always be some people that other people think should have been included and that there’s more justification for one person versus another.

“It is impossible to include everybody.”

Other stalwarts Bea Arthur and Ed McMahon were overlooked, while Patrick Swayze, Brittany Murphy and Jean Simmons were honored.

They could of had Photos Of all that have Passed in the Backround If they Thought it Would Take up to much Time To Name All.I for One feel they Did a poor Job .

Before Farah Fawcett was a Charlies Angel, she was great in Logan’s Run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOi8dDmF6to

Yeah, that was truly WRONG. Rather than show several pictures of each individual, they could have had more time to include all the dear, departed souls. It was a horrible decision to exclude ANYONE……

That’s why I did not watch the show, its full of snobs and hearless people.

Lady you are rediculous, Farrah Fawcett was just as famous as MJ if not more.
It was terrible for them to not put Farrah name and picture also.
My 9 year old grand child even said that it wasn’t fair for the press and television to say so much about MJ and not Farrah.

Farrah more famous than MJ…NOT. But I do think she should been given more recognition than MJ since this particular awards ceremony acknowledges acting, directing, editing etc.

Michael Jackson wrote and sang songs for movie soundtracks. He contributed behind the scenes.

While I’m sad that Farrah Fawcett died last year, I can understand her exclusion from the list. She did her most notable and best work on television. All the other awards shows acknowledged her contribution to television. Honestly, most of her movie work was not her best. She basically played the pretty girl.

Farrah did Extremities and The Apostle nominated for Golden Globes for best actress and independent spirit award

Michael Jackson was also in The Wiz. Farrah was in like a whole bunch of movies. She was in Myra Breckinridge (a movie written by Roger Ebert) Saturn 5, Logans Run etc etc. I feel bad that they left out Ricardo Montalban as well. KAAAAAAAHN ! Hell, they had sound people in there that no one heard of. But Farrah was a member of the Academy for over 20 years. I feel bad for everyone.

What about Bea Arthur? She was not in the tribute, and she’s won tons of awards for her work. Noboby’s talking about her.

  • Sharon

Yes, I agree some kind of acknowledgement for sure. She had a face that was known worldwide!

Farrah did several movies in her career so the Academy stating that she was not included as she known as a TV star, please. She did amazing acting in the ‘Burning Bed” to name just one. Her documentary gave us a heart-felt look into her personal life and struggles that alone gives her the right to be mentioned.

Its a shame and disrespectful to her family, friends, fans and mostly to Farrah. I hope this is not the last we hear on this subject as she deserves better and so does her family.

I will not watch the awards again as a tribute to the memory of a beautiful star that is still bright in the hearts of her fans. In fact, on the day it airs, I plan on having my girlfriends over to toast and watch a Farrah movie… “Farrah’s night with the Girls”. We do not need the Oscars to remember the one and only Farrah Fawcett.

I think it was morally wrong for the academy to have not included Farah and other prominent actresses like Bea Arthur in the memorium. The long dancing segment could have been shortened by 15 seconds which would have allowed ample time to honor everybody. I loved the academy awards this year but I think the academy should apologize to the fans and fallen stars families for failing to pay a proper tribute. I

I sincerely agree with you that it’s devastating that she was not included. Farrah “IS” and “FOREVER WILL BE” an ICON!

  • Darby

    She’s not worth writing about.

If you took all the heart in Hollywood and jammed it into a gnats ear, it would rattle around like two bb’s in a boxcar.
