ROBERT Pattinson has employed a team of five bodyguards.

According to reports, the burly minders were brought in by production company Summit while the actor, 23, was filming Remember Me in New York.

Pattinson apparently decided to keep the bodyguards after he was almost pushed under a car by a group of fans in New York’s Union Square.

“If it hadn’t been for the quick-thinking of two members of his team, he could easily have been a goner,” a source told OK! magazine.

“He was pushed off the sidewalk by the sheer number of fans who were trying to get close to him and fell against the door of a moving vehicle.

“If his clothing had got caught or a foot had gone under the car there’s no doubt he would have been dragged along and seriously hurt.

“Their reactions saved him from injury and afterward his face was as white as that of his vampire character Edward Cullen.”

Rob — who’s rumored to be dating his Twilight costar Kristen Stewart — has previously revealed how he relies on security guards to keep over-zealous fans at bay.

“I have all these security men who, whenever I’m going out of the building, I’m carried to places,” he said in October last year.
