HELENA Bonham Carter says she had to beg partner Tim Burton for a role in his new movie Alice in Wonderland.

The British actress — who raises two children with the eccentric filmmaker — plays the role of the big-headed Red Queen in the 3-D flick.

“I was about to do a photo of me dressed as Alice, you know, and make it into a poster and plaster it on the top of his ceiling with a little ransom note [saying]: ‘Can I be in it?’” she said.

“I was really prepared that I wasn’t going to be in it. And then he sort of phoned me up in America while I was on another job, really quite late in the day.

“And he said, ‘I’ve been meaning to ask if you’d ever be, you know possibly a very low status question, would you possibly ever think… do you want to play the Red Queen?’

“And I said: ‘Well, I don’t know, my people will have to get back to you, I haven’t read the script, have I?’ And then I read it and I loved the script.”
