America FerreraAMERICA Ferrera admits she was something of a tomboy when she was younger.

The Ugly Betty actress says she can relate to Astrid, — the character she voices in new animated adventure How To Train Your Dragon — because she was always interested in proving herself to the men in her life.

“I was always the girl who, when I was younger, played baseball with the boys,” she said. “I did not play softball. I did not want to play softball. I wanted nothing to do with it. I wanted to play baseball with the guys and I wanted to be as good as them.”

America, 25, recently admitted she doesn’t know what she’s going to do with herself now that Ugly Betty has come to an end.

“It’s hard for me to even imagine what my life is going to be like now,” said the actress, who starred in 83 episodes of Ugly Betty.

“I’ve been doing the same thing for the last four years, five days a week, 10 months out of the year. Now, I’m just excited to sleep and not feel like I have four weeks to find something that is worth doing.

“Everyone on the show feels the same way; We’re so lucky we had it and that it was a part of our lives. It’s exciting but sad to come to the end.”

America is a great role model for the 200,000 girls who are now playing baseball with the boys. She is proof that girls who are allowed to follow their dreams on the baseball fields will later take that same passion to other areas in their lives. Girl Power!
