Cate Blanchett: ‘Robin Hood Stunts Were Hard’

Posted by Adam

Cate BlanchettCATE Blanchett admits she was “tested” while filming new movie Robin Hood — because she was worried she’d be considered a chicken if she didn’t do her own stunts.

The actress plays Maid Marion to Russell Crowe‘s Robin in the upcoming Ridley Scott-directed blockbuster, and ended up doing more than merely playing a damsel in distress.

“I had to do a lot of stunts which certainly tested me,” says Cate. “Ridley said, ‘You can do it if you’re game for it.’

“If someone sets you a challenge like that you’re not going to turn around and say, ‘No I’m not.’ I did a lot of horse riding.

“I wouldn’t say I’m a master horsewoman but I do like riding a horse. And they are film horses so they’re pretty well trained. It was a thrill in the end.”

Robin Hood hits movie theaters May 14.

Cate, 40 — who raises three sons, Dashiell, eight; Roman, five; and 22-month-old Ignatius, with her playwright husband Andrew Uptonrecently insisted she puts her family ahead of her career.

“With my film choices it used to be a question of, ‘Who’s directing it?’” she said.

“Now it’s, ‘How long is the shoot and where are they filming?’ Recently I said yes to something because filming is in the Easter holidays. The children need to be in school now.

“The main priorities are the children and the theater. The day begins at about 5.30am — my youngest is an early riser. After breakfast, I walk the kids to school — they go to the state primary at the end of the street.

“Then I either work from home or go into the office at the theater. Andrew and I job-share, so there’s always someone to motor the family wheels.”
