CYNDI LAUPER: ‘BARACK OBAMA RECKONS LADY GAGA COPIED ME’

Posted by Adam

Cyndia LauperBARACK Obama thinks Lady GaGa‘s a copycat — according to Cyndi Lauper!

Speaking to New York magazine, the True Colors hitmaker revealed what she said to Obama when she was invited to the White House this year for the signing of the Hate Crimes Bill.

“That was awesome,” she said. “I said, ‘So I heard you opened for GaGa [at the Human Rights Campaign Fund gala a few nights prior]. How was it?’ He smiled and said, ‘She stole all your moves. You’re the original.’

Lauper — who toured with the Poker Face singer promoting Mac Viva Glam lipstick and AIDS awareness — says she sees herself in GaGa.

“GaGa does performance art, but she does sculpture; I do performance art and I paint myself,” she said. “When I saw her, I said, ‘Yeah, right’. You should never listen to people who say tone it down. I never painted myself so people would look at me; I did it because when I looked in the mirror, it made me feel alive.

“When I have color on my hair, I wake up — I can think, I can see. And I can’t understand spending all that time painting your hair and not making it look like a flower. I like tulips a lot. When spring comes and you see tulips all over the city, it’s too much for me. Eventually, I’m going to have to get the paintbrush out.”

While they’re not ‘fighting’ like rappers do (for the cameras) now — this friendly comparison has been milked before. And it works, just the same. Seems there’s a mutual admiration society — duo publicity effort at work, here? Here’s one pic online for a while, at that… and there’s plenty room for both.

I worked on mine for awhile (before excel ate it, god*&$$&%$) and it really does pull things out of you what you were thinking about during a particular time of your life and how the music fit into it. Trying to characterize a year with only one song challenging!
