JOAQUIN PHOENIX’S CRAZY ANTICS TO BE EXPLAINED IN MOCKUMENTARY

Posted by Adam

Joaquin Phoenix JOAQUIN Phoenix‘s bizarre antics are about to be explained.

Casey Affleck‘s ‘mockumentary’ about the star’s transition from an actor to a rapper is hitting the big screen.

The flick — which was picked up by independent movie distributor Magnolia Pictures — opens Sept. 10.

Phoenix, 35, had fans puzzled two years ago when he began making a series of bizarre public appearances, including growing a scraggly beard and appearing spacey on The Late Show With David Letterman.

At the time, Affleck, 34, filmed all of Phoenix’s outbursts, claiming he was shooting a documentary. Many thought Phoenix’s antics were just part of an elaborate hoax.

Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles called the film “a pretty amazing piece of work, jaw-dropping but dimensional”.

“It is going to get a lot of attention, but it is not some cheap stunt where they said, ‘Let’s do some wild stuff and film it.’ It is extreme behavior but really good filmmaking as well. Frankly, some of the behavior is very extreme,” he said.

“But it is in the context of the insanity of being in Joaquin’s life for that period of time. It is a unique piece of work that is going to surprise people in different ways.”

Phoenix was nominated for an Oscar for playing Johnny Cash in 2005′s Walk the Line. His last screen role: The 2008 indie drama Two Lovers with Gwyneth Paltrow.

Can somebody explain what “jaw-dropping but dimensional” means?

    • Space Cowboy

Yes, Jaw-dropping – to have your jaw dropped to the point of hitting the floor. Dimensional – After jaw drops the location of your teeth.

I really thought Joaquin Pheonix was brilliant in Walk The Line. However, with his incident records of drug abuse and the death of his brother because of it combined with his “acting up” rather than “up and acting”, there’s nothing in the world that will ever drag me to another one of his works, particularly a “mocumentary” with the commonality of what addicts imbed in their lifestyles that interests me about as much as some homeless loser sleeping in an empty cardboard refrigerator box under a bridge in the dead of winter. Don’t worry…he’ll be standing in a divided highway median strip at an intersection soon enough holding up a cardboard sign saying, “Will work for food”.

Good call Gina!…6 years ago,I had the wonderful pleasure of working with Joaquin over a two month period…the schedule was tough(Denmark,Sweden and Norway…) but we all pulled together like a family and had a terrific shoot(“family” happens on a set, when great cast and great crew gel seamlessly)
    Always kind,humble,friendly,funny,talented,technical,clever,witty and
    lovingly quirky…
Joaquin was so down-to-earth(which God bless,he still is) in every situation,
    on or off the set.
In the 33 years in this crazy biz, time with Joaquin was truly fun!
All the power to you Joaquin!
    (ps>the Maglite still works wonderfully)

This is what drugs do a person. They become a hot mess.

Let’s see… Hollywood: Land of Smoke and Mirrors. Honestly, You had to have known he was working on a project. No one needs to point fingers or browbeat him, he’s human. If you haven’t seen the documentary about his growing up in his family and the loss of his brother…you might consider watching it. It explains a lot. Joaquin, you’re still a brilliant actor, regardless of the bad press

I hope, and somewhat believe, that this has all been a performance. We shall see. If not, Joaq needs a longer stint in rehab than lilo.

President Obama just made a speech and I liked it. He is cracking down on dishonest crooked mortgage lending companies and wall street and banks and many other financial companies. President Obama is signing into law new rules that really will protect the average citizen from the dishonest thieving types working in the financial arena that have operated punitive free for decades. God bless you President Obama for protecting my family and friends from those scum of the earth. I am going to volunteer my time to do whatever I can to help the President. Now if we can just vote out some of those evil devils that still occupy the congress and senate that are just horrible human beings letting unemployed people suffer and all the other harm they inflict.

What does all of that have to do with Joaquin Phoenix??

  • Debra

Joaquin is one of my favorite actors, and I was hoping it was all a joke, or something… Well, close enough! Can’t wait to see it, and all the rest of his films.

By the way, Carlo: you’re rude.

hoax my ass. He can be kind or whatever. It doesn’t mean he isn’t a partaker in crazy debauchery.
