AMY ADAMS IN TALKS TO PLAY JANIS JOPLIN ON THE BIG SCREEN?

Amy AdamsAMY Adams is gonna be a rock star — on the big screen!

The Leap Year actress is reportedly in talks to play legendary musician Janis Joplin.

Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey brought up the project during a recent interview — and mentioned in passing that Adams would be starring as Joplin in a film about her life.

There is no studio attached to the film yet, and the script has been through several drafts, according to Deadline.

There have been several attempts to make a film about Joplin’s life, but none ever got off the ground. Funhouse singer Pink was once attached to an earlier and different Joplin project, and even did a screen test for director Penelope Spheeris.

Adams, 35, recently gave birth to her first child.

    Amy Adams as Janis Joplin?! A solid, NO! Baseed on everything she’s done to date, there is no way I would ever buy it. If she, somehow, manages to pull it off, I’d be the first to be pleasantly surprised, but no, I just don’t even want to see them try it. You know who would make a fabulous Janis Joplin? Crystal Bowersox. She has the looks, hair, personality and voice to perfectly pull off such a huge character.

      Amy Adams is a great choice. Amy has the pipes to go along with her amazing acting talents. Check out her appearance on Jimmy Fallon on Hulu. There Jimmy puts her on the spot and makes her sing karaoke and she was awesome. And that was just her fooling around and having fun.

      Fernando knows what he is doing, he would had never picked her if he didn’t think she’d be perfect for the part. Janis was a very complicated woman filled with emotions and all kinds of problems. She’s going to need someone that can convey those emotions and Amy has the talent to pull that off. She has proven her self in Junebug and Doubt. She really is the right person for that job.

      I totally agree with Bowersox… you want a believable Joplin… put someone who can hit it like Joplin and whose looks are not that of a model… Janis’s voice made her famous dispite her looks… It would be easier to knock down Bowersox’s looks to match Joplins. This is a no brainer… and good for Bowersox… she got pimped on Idol but she was born to play Janis… No I’m not a fan of idol and I know very little of Bowersox… It’s just there , Ray Charles could see that…

    Also, let’s just say it-Amy Adams is very talented but far to ‘pretty pretty pretty’ to be Janis-Crystal Bowersox, in addition to having the right voice for the part, is sufficiently ‘plain looking’.

    Whoever suggested Amy Adams as Janis is CRAZY AS HELL … Yes, Crystal Bowersox would be a good choice..BUT..I could really see P!NK playing a much better Janis..especially since she also has the voice to go along with it.. She’d be able to sing the songs live on screen, as well as go in the studio and record the soundtrack herself…Another person who would also be great for the part, is JOSS STONE… She would also have the look, as well as the VOICE to match..once again, she’d be another one who would be able to sing live on screen and for the soundtrack…They would be a MUCH BETTER CHOICE!

      The first thought that went through my mind when I read this feed was, “You’ve got to be kidding!” She’s an ok actress, but definitely NOT a Janis Joplin. This would be a waste of money for all involved.

    Can we not forget that Janis Joplin was a human being and a very complex human being for that matter. We all know Janis as a singer, but that was just her job, it’s not what defined her as a whole. Singing is just a part of who she was, the rest, the Janis as a human being, as a person with personal problems and demons is what’s really important.

    We all know her music and we are all entertained by it, but now we have an opportunity to get to know the artist even if it’s through an actor. This is why it’s important to use an actress that can act. Pink is a great singer. I love her, but she’s not an actress. She may be able to sing her songs just like Janis did, but can she bring Janis back to life with her performance? That is the real question here. Let’s not forget that!

    HELLO Crystal Bowersox is NOT AN ACTRESS! She’d turn a potentially amazing bio-pic into a teeny booper nightmare! As for Amy Adams, love her (especially in Junebug) but she is way to sweet and soft spoken to play Janis. Brittney Murphy would have been good, but I’m thinking Casey Mulligen (AMAZING ACTRESS BY THE WAY) or even Scarlett Jo (she has that masculine look to her and she cab sing…somewhat). Come to think of it Joss Stane would be amazing…if she can act? I love Janis and hope the directer does her justice!

    I HATE it when Hollywood uses an actor who doesn’t even REMOTELY have the facial features of who they’re supposed to portray! Not meant as an insult to Amy Adams, but jeez! No way! I can’t think offhand of what actress would be better, but I’m sure there are others more fitting to play JANIS!!

    Janis Joplin’s music was fine, but her life was a train wreck. Why would anyone spend $ to watch a movie about a drug addict killing herself?

    Dumb idea. I won’t bother to watch it, if it is ever made. That said…suppose there are plenty of tasteless people who enjoy seeing the carnage of a train wreck…

    Can’t blame Adams for considering the role. She has the talent to pull it off and it would broaden the perception of her abilities.
