BRITTANY MURPHY’S WIDOWER DRAINED HER CASH RESERVES?

Brittany MurphyBRITTANY Murphy’s widower has been accused of stealing the tragic actress’ money.

Murphy’s former business manager Jeffrey Morgenroth says British film producer Simon Monjack drained his deceased wife’s cash reserves by 80 percent before his own death from anemia and pneumonia in May.

As a result, Murphy’s mom Sharon, 57, is facing financial uncertainty, Morgenroth told People magazine.

“There were huge amounts of money in [Brittany's] pension plan and bank account, and all of that’s gone,” Morgenroth said. “I would see it on the statements. There was money being withdrawn by Simon, hundreds of thousands.”

Meanwhile, Simon’s mom, Linda Monjack, insists her controversial son did nothing wrong.

“I think there were financial problems [before their deaths],” Linda said from her home in England.

“They were certainly acting like there were problems. Sharon was asking friends for money and I don’t know why.

“I just want to grieve my son in peace. I adored Simon and he was a part of me, a part of me that is now gone. Whatever the truth is, so be it. I just want peace.”

  1. Harry A. Hole says:

Someone should take a hard look at the business manager too. We all know how honest they are.

  2. sophia says:

simon stold money and send all to his mother-linda.that’s why she wants a peace now. lol yah, they are money managers.

  3. hob says:

Um excuse me? How did her husband steal her money? In most cases the spouse gets the money and whatever else is left after death. Unless it was legally going to someone else, it was the husbands money after brittany’s death. PERIOD. Why is someone questioning this. It happens every day when a man dies and the wife lives. Living it up and cant spend her dead husbands money fast enough I might add.

    • Well im taking it that they are suspecting foul play took place.

    • K says:

I agree. The husband gets the money when the wife dies. How ignorant for anyone else to think they have any entitlement to it. They should be ashamed of themselves. If brit wanted someone else to have it other than the husband then she would have had stipulated that in a will.

    • voodoo says:

yeah, and that’s why simon probably killed brit, to get her $$$. Looks like her ghost came and got him for it! HAHAHAHHAHAH simon’s mom probably got a lot of the $ that’s why she doesn’t care what happened.

  4. what? says:

The money was hers, then her husbands when she died… Why is the mother crying about financial woes? She should be working herself, not leaching off her daughter…

  5. what? says:

    Exactly hob!

  6. Adam says:

Why is mom pissed? Her daughter was married and obviously Simon had a joint account just like most married folks. Mom just needs to go get a job.

  7. candi says:

Actually Brittany had her MOTHER as the benefactor of her will, NOT Simon. Simon said after Brittany’s death that he wouldn’t contest the will. Of course he still was living with Sharon after Brittany died and they supposedly were going to move to New York together.. I guess that’s why he didn’t contest the will — he was getting the money anyway, so why contest it?

    • Money Hungry says:

Bebefactor or not, by law the money goes to the husband until a court order says otherwise. If in fact there had been a hold on the money by the will or the mother he would not have been able to access it at all. That doesn’t seem to be the case here…

      • LegalEagle says:

Money Hungry, I’m not sure where you got your J.D., but in NO state where I’ve probated estates does the money “go” anywhere unless and until said estate is in probate, notices have been published, inventory and accountings filed, debts paid, releases signed, and the court has authorized disbursements. Even then, the money goes to the beneficiary/ies. Anyone else who has unlawfully taken funds after death, even a spouse, must reimburse the estate if they are not a beneficiary. If he or she should predecease that reimbursement, the amount owed is considered one of their debts, and should be paid back out of his or her estate. Anna Nicole Smith vs. the Estate of Howard Marshall, anyone? Read up.

  8. Dan says:

I don’t get this. I agree with previous posters. Simon was Brittany’s husband. He should have been entitled to the money after Brittany’s death. Even if Brittany did leave the money to Sharon, Simon as her husband probably decided he helped support his wife and was entitled.

  9. SBA says:

    I agree with hob 100%

Unless she left a will behind stating that her money was to go elsewhere, her husband is entitled to 100% of those funds. If he wasn’t entitled to it, he wouldn’t have been able to get his hands on it in the first place (assuming she kept it in a treasury/bank of some sort which is highly likely).

I think it is sad that after his death, this crap is still being dragged out. Isn’t it tragic enough that a beautiful young couple died so suddenly of the same illness?

I think her mom just wants to be back in the spotlight now that nobody is paying attention to her anymore. Because seriously, she’s facing financial uncertainty? So is the rest of the country! Heaven forbid she have to give up that lavish mansion and go back to living in a regular house like a *gasp* NORMAL PERSON!

    Give me a break.

I’m sure there’s still a few million left stashed away somewhere. Still 20% of the money he hadn’t used yet and that is probably a lot.

Why make this money trouble her daughter’s legacy rather than the legacy of her film career? (Because say what you want about the girl, Clueless is one of the most popular movies of the 90s and still plays an important role in the dramedy genre today.)

  10. Change out Obama says:

Duh She Oded He Partied with the remains so what the fucks the problem?

  11. oldladymavis says:

Mom shouldn’t have had to depend on her DAUGHTER to support her! Whatever was done, they are BOTH gone now… deal with the loss of your daughter & son in law… NOT the money! She should be ashamed to even bring it up. SHAME ON HERE!!!

  12. mc says:

how can he be accused when he’s dead?

  13. Sherri says:

No foul play. The coroner determined that toxic mold in the house played a large part in the death of the actress who had anemia and pneumonia

  14. Joe says:

Things like this won’t happen IF YOU MAKE A WILL!!

  15. myself says:

Iam so sorry for her family and friends! But hello people…Wake up!!! Get over the gossip! If me or my husband died today… Would anybody give a shit???

  16. sherry says:

why are all of you so worried about whose money it is/was and everything else..they are dead! what does it matter..it is none of your business….get a life!! I read it for interest, but don’t spend time worrying about a celebrity’s money

  17. robert chatillion says:

    Brittany was awesome in “Spun”.

  18. Beverly says:

I find the whole situation sad. I agree that if the husband was entitled to any money after Brittney’s death then he stole nothing… AND further more, now Brittney’s mom is crying about not getting any money and worried about her finances? Where is it that her mom earned any of Brittney’s money? I think they were all gold diggers and Brittney died sad and alone.

  19. eagles125 says:

Brittany’s mom is angry. I speculate that Simon left his estate for his mother and Brittany’s mom think that she was created.

If a spouse dies all the money goes to the living spouse unless if the person leaves a will stating an amount going to this person, that person.

This is what happens when people do not leave well thought-out wills. Never too young to plan a will.

    • martina says:

These poor people both died of Mold in their home in LA??? That’s so odd. If they had so much money did no one think to get the ‘mold’ problem fixed? LA has one of the driest climates on the planet…semi arid desert is what I remember from geography lessons in school??? I do not associate mold and arid desert type climates…LA is not exactly in a rain forest area. Very odd…she was so talented…I saw her at an airport once…she was tiny and pretty…what a loss.

  20. khandi says:

The manager just want 15min in the media. The husband is entitle to get whatever is left. Let them rest in peace!

  21. biz says:

Her mom needs to get a effin job if she wants some money!

  22. lolly says:

WHO CARES…HE DID NOT STEAL HER MONEY. HER MONEY WAS HIS ONCE SHE WAS GONE. JUST AS HIS WOULD HAVE BEEN HERS. I THINK MOST HUSBANDS AND WIVES WOULD SAY THAT THE MONEY WAS THEIRS IF THEIR SPOUSE DIED…OR THEIR KIDS..BUT “NOT” THE MOTHER IN LAW…UNLESS IT WAS STIPULATED IN THE WILL. BUT THEN I THINK IT STILL GOES TO THE SPOUSE. I DO NOT SEE THE BIG DEAL AND I CERTAINLY DO NOT THINK IT IS ANYONES BUSINESS…ESPECIALLY THE BUSINESS MANAGERS…ON HOW OR WHAT HE SPENT THE MONEY ON. IT WAS HIS MOST LIKELY. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS GUY IS SAYING THIS NOW. AS FAR AS THE MOTHER GOES..I FEEL FOR HER BUT MAYBE SHE SHOULD BE LIVING OFF OF HER OWN MONEY AND NOT HER DAUGHTER. I REALLY FEEL LIKE BRITTANY PROBABLY DID NOT LEAVE MONEY TO HER IN HER WILL BECAUSE IF IT HAD BEEN LEFT TO HER SHE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN IT IMMEDIATELY AND THE HUSBAND COULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN IT ANYWAY. SO WHAT HE DID AFTER BRITTANY DIED WAS HIS BUSINESS. HE PROBABLY WAS DISTRAUGHT…PEOPLE DO CRAZY THINGS WHEN THEY HAVE TRAGEDY IN THEIR LIFE! MAYBE HE THOUGHT THAT IF HE SPENT MONEY IT WOULD MAKE HIM HAPPIER..MONEY CAN’T ALWAYS BUY THAT. I AM NOT REALLY A FAN OF HIS EITHER. BUT IN TURN I DO NOT THINK IT IS ANYONE’S BUSINESS HOW HE SPENT HIS MONEY. THINK ABOUT IT! MOM BETTER GET A JOB..SHE IS RELATIVELY YOUNG.

  23. Silo says:

Brittany probably saw from the “other side” what this jerk was doing – stealing her money from her mother – and dragged him to to Hell!!!

  24. Disgusted says:

Lousy reporting. Must have been a slow news day.

Read it again people. Without all the dressing, neither mother said she needed money. It only quotes the FORMER business manager. Brittany left her estate to her mother and left Simon out AT HIS REQUEST. Simon and her mother continued to share the house. It quotes Simon’s mom saying that Sharon, Brittany’s mother, was asking friends for money before either of them died, but that she didn’t know why. Not surprising, since the moms live in different countries. Maybe Sharon wanted to get her own place. Bet that quote was taken out of context from somewhere.

There is only the manager’s unsubstantiated word for all this. If it hadn’t been quoted so publically I’d say he was trying to cover his own dipping into funds. I agree, he’s just trying to get his 15 minutes of fame.

The coroner ruled out that mold contributed to their deaths, that was just a rumor, although the house will be investigated as a precaution.

In fact, most of this article was based on rumors, easily debunked by a few internet searches for official reports. Last time I visit this site, shame on you ShowbizSpy.

  25. james blair says:

Pension usually not included in the will because a beneficiary is named. You can’t get your hands on it unless you’re the named beneficiary, & that’s almost always the spouse if decedent was married.

  26. STELLA says:

THATS SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT! HE HAS THIEF WRITTEN ALL OVER HIS FACE. POOR MS MURPHY FELL FOR THIS CON ARTIST.
I ALWAYS THOUGHT HE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH HER DEATH BUT MADE IT REAL AND UNSUSPECTING.
BRITTNEY WAS BEAUTIFUL,ELEGANT AND REAL CLASSY -AS APPOSED TO THE FOOL SHE MARRIED-
    FAT FAT AND FAT!
    GOD BLESS BRITNEY

  27. Friborz says:

    noway

  28. big lex says:

You people are not smarter than a third grader just becouase you are married dose not mean your spouse gets your money when you Die that only happens when there is no will in this case there was a will the only money he was entitel to was the money she made after there marriage all the money made before was left to her mother and you all are saying she should get a job there are estate taxes that the IRS are seeking from her based on the value of the estate in the will in other words if the will says I leave you 10 million the taxes you owe are 4.5 million and the IRS will want proof that the estate value was no longer 10 million before her daughters death in order to collect the right amount if she can not prove that the estate was less in value she still will owe the maximum amount even if there is only 1.5 in the estate she will still owe over 4.5 million do the math she would still owe this amount even if she got a job and lived in a one bed room Apt now do you get it.

  29. Yeah exactly it was the husbands at that point and he had every right to drain it dry if he wanted.

  30. dee says:

isn’t it ovious, this is personal.
who cares, the mothers lost. theres no profit here.
As In TMZ tonight the blond surfer wanna be dude looks like he never washes his hair, they even made him turn his T shirt inside out (LOOK)!!!! Would you want someone like this grease bum reporting on your lastings in life!!!

  31. Takes One says:

Sounds like a bunch of crackheads to me.

  32. Rick Waypoint says:

Actually there are electromagnetic weapons that can give people heart attacks. You need to read this:

    secretcontrol
    (dot)
    byethost33
    (dot)
    com

Groups on the right side of what is described there have the weapons and so do the groups on the wrong side. The difference is that we have the moral imperative in order to use them.

You need to use what’s said in there against them, if you don’t then you’re vulnerable and they can do what they want with you.

  33. joe doaks says:

    Hookers and Blow

  34. Joseph Blowinski says:

Why don’t they check the credit card bills since she died and try to trace when the money was withdrawn before they make these accusations. They are both dead now, so give what’s left to his mother to blow. F her

  35. Joseph Blowinski says:

Hookers sounds good to me. No blow for me unless it’s a job.

  36. Joseph Blowinski says:

Maybe Sharon would for the dough.

  37. Amanda says:

Ashton and Brittany should have stayed together!!! After Brittany died I had a strange feeling that he(Simon) had some kind of role in it.

  38. Cookie says:

While I feel sorry for Brittany’s mother and she should have inherited some money from the estate if Brittany made allowances for it by way of a will. If not, her husband would then automatically inherit ALL of her estate. Upon his death, it would move to his children. So legally he is not a thief in the eyes of the law. It is his right to inherit her estate. So, no more with the theif stuff. Get a good lawyer,Mrs. Murphy! Good luck and God bless.

  39. JANE says:

Did I read right that they both died from a similar cause?
And, if they both died from “mold” then the mother-in-law should have the same symtoms including death but she is fine? Seems strange to me that no one is questioning this.

  40. Charlene says:

This is sad to think that someone would take all of Brittany’s money. I think it all should of went to a musuem which would of been dedicated to Brittany’s life and personal belongings. She was one of my favorite actresses and the death that she experienced was just horrible. If only Brittany could look down upon us and see how much the world loved her!

  41. gigi mcqueen says:

I don’t want to know that he did anything underhanded..I have been thinking this guy was totally gaga for Britney..Like we all were..Hope this is not true and it can be all laid to rest with the two of them..Such a sad sad story.

  42. Ray says:

Sorry…….When your wife dies her money becomes the husband’s money. This is a sorry excuse for news.

  43. Elli says:

Jeffrey Morgenroth easily can be a suspect #1 …

  44. Pablo says:

Her husband didn’t steal anything. It was her freaking HUSBAND. Did Brittany’s mom expect all of her daughters money when she died? If my wife was wealthy, and passed away, I’d be a little self destructive with the family fortune too. It’s my right, just as it was her husbands right.

  45. Bobbie Joe says:

“WHO CARES…HE DID NOT STEAL HER MONEY. HER MONEY WAS HIS ONCE SHE WAS GONE”

A lot of people are saying this but it is not necessarily true. Are any of you saying this over 12 years old? or have you ever been married?

There is a thingy called a prenup and if Brit had one then upon her death her husband should have gotten a percentage of her assets as well as any other named persons (her Mother)
