EMMA Watson chopped off her hair in a bid to land a movie role.

According to British newspaper The Sun, the actress — who recently debuted her new ‘do — is screen-testing for the lead in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Watson — who shot to fame playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movie franchise — is said to be in talks to play the main female character, computer hacker Lisbeth Salander, alongside Daniel Craig.

“Emma has auditioned with director David Fincher and cut her hair to look the part,” a source said.

“The character of Lisbeth is a misfit goth-type girl with spiky hair.”

Other actresses tipped for the role include Natalie Portman, Ellen Page and Carey Mulligan.

Watson, 20, recently revealed she feels liberated now that her hair is short.

“Oh my God, it was the most liberating thing!” she said.

“The stylist just grabbed the back of my hair and took a whole ponytail of hair out. It felt amazing. I love it.”
