The Furry Vengeance star will make his stage debut in the Barrymore Theatre’s production of Elling, a drama adapted from the hit 2001 Norwegian movie about a pair of mental-facility inmates who are freed and permitted to live on their own.

Brendan will play Kjell, a “big, shaggy lump of a man who, at 40, is desperate to lose his virginity,” opposite Jennifer Coolidge as his girlfriend and Denis O’Hare in the title role, according to the New York Post.

Fraser recently admitted he enjoyed piling on the pounds for his role in Furry Vengeance.

“I don’t know the number of pounds I gained because, in my real life, I don’t step on scales,” he said. “I don’t believe them. I’m like, ‘You’re a liar.’

“I needed a bigger butt on account of there was going be a lot of physical comedy. I get thrown around a lot in the movie. But let’s just face it, it’s funny. Kids love it. Adults love it. They’re like, ‘Ha-ha, look! Brendan Fraser has gotten fat.’ ”

    Brendan Fraser is an incredible and versatile actor. I just might have to plan my next visit to the Met and the Moma around this. His performance in “Cat in a Hot Tin Roof” in London was said to be remarkable and I’d love to have a chance to see him on stage.
