Rooney MaraROONEY Mara‘s career is about to explode!

The actress, 25, will play Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The film — based on the Stieg Larsson novel of the same name — will be directed by David Fincher.

The movie is due in theaters in 2011 and also stars Daniel Craig.

Rooney also stars in Fincher’s upcoming movie The Social Network. Her other screen credits include Tanner Hall, Youth in Revolt and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Other actresses rumored to be up for the role of Lisbeth included Emma Watson, Natalie Portman, Ellen Page, Carey Mulligan and most recently Scarlett Johansson.

    Well I don’t have to worry abut going to see it now…No way am I going to dole out my hard earned cahs in these tough times to see an unknow actress in a part that should have gone to one more estabished.

    I have seen the danish versions and this Rooney is in way over her head.
