Robert PattinsonROBERT Pattinson almost died while shooting his new movie Water For Elephants!

According to a new report in American tabloid the National Enquirer, the hunky British actor — who stars opposite Reese Witherspoon in the film — came close to getting squashed by a 9,000-pound elephant named Rosie.

Rosie apparently tossed Rob off her back — and nearly rolled over him!

In a scene where he climbs aboard the animal to give her a soothing shower bath, Pattinson — who playis a young man who runs off to join a 1930s circus — converses with Witherspoon, standing below.

“The script called for the elephant to step forward while swinging her trunk from side to side, but Rosie got her signals mixed up,” a source said.

“Instead, she sat down on her big butt, lifted her front legs — then rolled over. Before anyone could react, Robert slid right down the elephant’s back. It could have been a disaster if she’d rolled over on him — but he got lucky, landing face first in a pile of dirt and mud. He was filthy, but unharmed.

“Everyone on the set cracked up — especially Reese, who was laughing so hard she couldn’t catch her breath.”

Crew members ran to Robert’s aid, but even he found the incident hilarious. “I’m just glad she didn’t roll on top of me,” he told everyone.

    Somehow I doubt this is true. This kind of story just coming out now weeks after filming finished. Rob is always the subject of made up stories to sell magazines… The elephant in the book was named Rosie – i doubt the elephant used for the movie was named the same – seems all made up to me.

    lulu-what reality to you live in…. Eclipse alone has made over 600 million world wide not counting the dvd sales that are sure to put them well over that mark. The only people moving on are the people on this site.. .his true fans have stayed loyal and the Twilight franchise stays as strong as ever despite the efforts of some of the people on this site.     Oh yah.. and considering they barely spend their money I highly doubt they will be broke anytime soon.. they aren’t the types to buy big mansions have rave parties and pay the way for a posse… they will have money well into retirement. Many fans will do the same. don’t forget Reese Witherspoon and that other oscar winning actor have a good fan base too not to mention the book the WFE was based on is a number one best seller and has many fans that will see WFE just to see the book come to life. Fans who haven’t even seen TW. Rob will gain a whole new fan base… a more mature fan base, and if he does his job great then there’s a good chance for an oscar nod on this one because that book is well respected as are the actors in the movie. IT will get recognition. Look at Hurt Locker, no one saw that movie practically… only made 29000 world wide and yet it won an oscar for best film.

        I don’t take what these celebrities say so literally. If asked if he’d date a fan, OF COURSE Rob’s's going to say “yes.” He couldn’t very well say “no” to a question like that lol! He’d look like a snob.

    Who says they have been consistantly together throughout the past couple of years.. perhaps the comment was made when they were on a break… if they are truly together at all. OPEN BOOK- thanks so much, I’ve read your posts and agree with most everything you have said. You appear to really understand how HW works. Most people who don’t live here don’t get it. Thanks again, and in regard to the avatar, i’ve said this before..I am totally computer lame and could not figure our how to get an avatar…I would love one but how to get the picture on it is another story. Going out with someone doesn’t mean a date and again, maybe he and KS aren’t a steady couple as in a committed realtionship..at the time they may have just been able to see other people.     Rob as Jacob Jankowski

    R likes to pick roles that challenge him and help him grow as an actor. What are some of the challenges/similarities between R and Jacob that in your opinion made R choose this role?How do you think that this paticular character will challenge R as an actor? There is some talk that R may be nominated for an Oscar for this role if he can portray Jacob correctly.

    If he is only nominated, what type of roles would you like to see R play in the future that could possibly win him an Oscar?

      Great post and question!!!

      IMO: When u live a sheltered life, away from real world issues and concerns, u can develop a pretty skewed sense of reality. In some way’s being around someone so aloof can be quite endearing if the person acknowledges his or her ignorance but eagerness to learn.

      In chapter two on pg. 19 of WFE written by Sara Gruen, Jacob Jankowski awakens to learn the truth, that his father sheltered him from the realities of the families veterinary business. J who is portrayed by RPatz is shocked to find his father’s charitable way’s bankrupted the families business and the father used the house he grew up in, to pay for JJ’s Ivy League education, which the bank now owns. After learning the truth, J suffers an emotional breakdown and in efforts to hold onto his sanity, runs away and joins the circus.

      IMO: The character JJ was perfect for R to embody. I don’t think anyone other than R could have grasped or related to J’s situation and do it justice. In a lot of way’s R’s situation after TW mirrors J’s awakening moment in WFE. No longer sheltered, R has had to endure the realities of HW, constant public scrutiny, interest and criticism into his private life and career. Anyone living under such watchful eyes after a relatively obscure existence a few years ago would be shocked, overwhelmed and looking for an escape much like J. Instead, R has continued to march on, all with a smile, while acknowledging his ignorance but eagerness to learn. This is what makes R so endearing and explains why people’s interest in him still continues to grow.

      What roles I would like to see R play? I know a role that would make everyone forget R was ever Edward! However, I will tell u in two weeks what it is…… :0)

    Laura great questions and OB what a great examples, I can’t wait for BA, but really can’t wait for WFE to come out. I believe that this may be the beginning of Rob’s career after TW. I do worry about one thing though that he will considered for Oscar when the movie comes out in April, but with BD coming out in November that he will then lose any chance of being nominated or even win.

    Rob and Jacob both have their looks working for and against them. Jacob is seen as a looker in WFE and we all know that Rob is. This is something that both have to over come to prove there is more to them then their looks. Jacob does this by becoming one of the circus people by initiation and showing that he can pull his weight and be one of them. Rob is still in the middle of this by picking more and more gritty roles. I think if he could pick a role that shows that he can play something than the emo, depressed, romantic character. More of a bad guy type which I think will show a different side to his acting.

      Great Questions Laura, OpenBook and Kim.

      WFE from a similarities perspective Jacob is roughly at the same point in his life as R. Learning how to stand on your own, facing the grim realities of life. Jacob’s instinct of wanting to escape I think we all have been thru at one time and hopefully R can show and connect that emotion with the audience. The role challenges him to think of how to express the desperation that Jacob feels and learning how to adapt in a new situation. Which is what we all do when we change jobs. We take what we have learned previously and apply it in a new environment and we adapt. For that, it’s a lifelong lesson for everyone and one we are seeing with Rob’s real life situation with TW (agreeing with OpenBook)

      As far as R’s future projects/characters? I’m not sure about anything specific. I would like to see him find material that stretches him as a person and as an actor and that he feels compelled to bring to life.

        What I tell my son a lot is that you have to be open to learning and that you will learn your whole life. I think any role R takes, he should look for characters and situations that allow him to learn and grown personally and professionally. Be open to experiences that he would never have another chance to enjoy (like working with all the animals and the elephant in WFE). And if he feels he portray the character and make the audience connect thru his acting, then we all benefit!
