The actor — who is best known for portraying Kevin McCallister in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York — celebrates his 30th birthday today, Thursday, August 26th!

At the height of Culkin’s fame he was regarded as the most successful child actor since Shirley Temple. He was also considered one of the late entertainer Michael Jackson‘s best friends. Macaulay was ranked #2 in VH1 and E!’s respective lists, the “100 Greatest Kid-Stars” and “50 Greatest Child Stars”.

The actor married actress Rachel Miner in 1998, but they divorced in 2000. He’s now dating actress Mila Kunis.

Here’s four Macaulay facts:

- he is godfather to Michael Jackson’s son Prince Michael and daughter Paris.

- he became the first child actor to ever receive $1 million dollars for one film — 1991′s My Girl.

- his role in Born on the Fourth of July was cut by director Oliver Stone.

- his aunt is actress Bonnie Bedelia.

    Although everyone is commenting on his work in Home Alone, etc… he has turned in some terrific work as an
    adult. Mac did a great guest-turn in a few episodes of Will and Grace as an attorney hired by Karen to face off against Will.
    He was amazing in the film Party Monster with Seth Green. He played famed club promoter Michael Alig who falls into drug addiction and eventually murders his dealer.
    He also gave a great performance in the film Saved with Mandy Moore.
    People don’t seem to realize just how talented Macaulay is, focusing only on his connection to Michael Jackson and his work as a child star. But Mac has done theater, wrote a book and continued to hone his craft.

Now, filming has been abruptly delayed for at least nine months, possibly longer, to accommodate Macaulay’s schedule. Thank you for making Michael’s life much happier when you were around as a kid friend and later as his everlasting adult friend too. He SO needed that loyalty and genuineness.

    I think much of your own saneness and wisdom comes from the silent lessons you learned from watching Michael’s anguish up close and personal. I’m sure you lent him a strong supportive shoulder, and I hope you continue to keep your head on straight and honor yourself (and Michael) in that way. As godfather to his 2, I hope you will REALLY watch out for all 3 of them, and let them trust you as their dad did, and guide them on how to STAY COOL despite all the craziness and conflicts they will encounter in life.

    Here’s wishing you and Mila (or someone else who is worthy) will love each other maturely and truly. Perhaps will get a chance to raise some wonderful children too one day! You know how to handle it Mac — keep it real, my man.
