ELISABETH HASSELBECK: ‘MELISSA ETHERIDGE CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT GAY MARRIAGE’

Posted by Adam

Elisabeth Hasselbeck ELISABETH Hasselbeck changed her views on gay marriage after having dinner with lesbian singer Melissa Etheridge.

“I think there are a lot of, maybe, conservatives out there who are talking about gay marriage and not necessarily with someone who wants to have gay marriage or has been in a gay marriage,” said The View co-host.

“You know, I had Melissa Etheridge over, we had dinner, we talked for hours about gay marriage, and I would really challenge people: Get out there. Instead of just talking about it and hating on it, actually talk to someone who’s loved someone else and have the conversation about what can be done.”

Hasselbeck recently revealed she supports gay marriage but is “torn” on the issue of abortion.

“I am a person that does believe that life begins at conception, but I also don’t believe that the government should tell women what to do with their bodies,” she said.

Hasselbeck said she views herself as more of a Federalist with an “independent streak.”

“I always say I would rather change a heart than a law,” she said.

“He wasn’t just answering me, he was sending through me a message to the American people that felt special,” she said.

Elisabeth was recently branded a “bitch” by Sharon Osbourne.

On her Thursday appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Fallon asked Osbourne to name her least favorite member of The View team.

“The least? Oh that little blonde idiot,” she said, referring to Hasselbeck.

I just cannot stand this woman. I stopped watching the View a long time ago because of her.

    • Kay

There’s no need to paint all women who get abortions with such a broad brush. Yes, there are irresponsible women who get them; women who eschew birth control/condoms. But there are others who have difficult roads leading them to the abortion clinics: abusive boyfriends who sabotage their pills/condoms, ectopic pregnancies, pregnancies that will do more damage to the baby than to the mother, etc.

      • Kay

Oop, meant to reply to Imgurl

  • lmgurl

I feel the same way. I have friends that are gay, and I really think that they have the right to marry and be with who ever they want to be. If they love someone who are we to change them, but when it comes to abortion I’m like well i don’t like the idea of someone who could of been born simply not being born because a careless girl gets an abortion, but if you’ve been raped you do deserve a choice. It’s such a hard decision….

  • Right On

Wow, I have so much respect for you Elizabeth. You are really are a woman of honor. Beautiful both inside and out

  • hasselbeckhater

Glad to see she has been enlightened but Elizabeth is still a first rate cunt. HATE HER!

    • Lee T.

No, she’s actually pretty nice, pretty good looking, and pretty smart. I can’t speak for your looks, although I’m sure you’re a troll… figuratively and literally, and you definitely aren’t nice or smart. Only an idiot makes up their mind about someone else in a knee-jerk fashion and continues to throw tantrums like a little 2-year-old baby regardless of the other’s attempt to compromise or at least engage in meaningful dialogue.

Okay, you may now go eat your nightly pint of Haagen Dazs.

  • Mimi

Wow…maybe Elisabeth has finally taken her head out of the hate monger’s asses, or possibly she is just growing up.

  • jenjam

    what a sell out!!!

  • Fred

She’s the only one on that horrible show with any sense at all(and attractive too)

  • Banja

I use to love Elisabeth, loved her when she’d go on Sean Hannity…I guess after reading this I am No longer a fan, I thought she was a true conservative and held strong on her beliefs…Shes just another flip flopper…I use to watch the View because of her, now shes just like the rest……..Marriage is and should always be between a man and a women….Let them have Civil unions………Abortion is murder….Take their hand, not their life!

    • Lance

I kind of think that it’s more about Elisabeth’s immaturity and less about her being a sell out. Even though I’ve been a Conservative all of my adult life and a Christian since I was 18, I used to think matters like abortion and homosexuality were best left to the individuals affected. Now, though, I understand that abortionists are nothing more than murderers for hire who exploit women when they are extremely vulnerable. When it comes to homosexual marriage, I do not believe that same sex couples should be able to marry, period; however, I do think that the Christian community should stop demonizing people who live “gay” lifestyles. God loves people who go to “gay” bars on Saturday nights as much as he loves people who go to churches on Sunday mornings.

  • Christi

I probably won’t be popular for this comment, but here goes…As a conservative who has always, for the most part, agreed with Elisabeth Hasslebeck’s statements I just have to say….”What a sell-out!” All this represents is her desperately grasping for popularity and fame…Conservative views aren’t usually the popular view, so she’s trying a different angle. What a hypocrite.

    • Lance

Sorry, this reply was for Christi (hit the wrong “reply”)… I kind of think that it’s more about Elisabeth’s immaturity and less about her being a sell out. Even though I’ve been a Conservative all of my adult life and a Christian since I was 18, I used to think matters like abortion and homosexuality were best left to the individuals affected. You can’t help but notice a pattern when it comes to Liberals and their vitriolic hatred of Conservative women… let’s see, Sarah Palin (beautiful, successful, intelligent, independent, principled), Elisabeth Hasselbeck (beautiful, successful, intelligent, independent, principled), S.E. Cupp (beautiful, successful, intelligent, independent, principled), Ann Coulter (beautiful, successful, intelligent, independent, principled), Michele Bachmann (beautiful, successful, intelligent, independent, principled). I could go on.

It’s understandable when Conservatives say they can’t stand the sight of Liberal women like Hillary Clinton (repulsive inside and out, ignorant, self-serving), or Barbara Boxer (repulsive inside and out, ignorant, self-serving), or Janeane Garofalo (repulsive inside and out, ignorant, self-serving), because, well, Liberal women are grotesque. The thing about it is, though, it’s not their ugly looks that make Liberal women gross to behold, it’s their revolting personalities. If Liberals spent more time learning to accept themselves for who they are and less time cultivating their abnormal envy of other people, they might not be so miserable and insufferable.

    • Mary-Ann

The whole lot of them are grotesque. You’re just as biased as the liberals you’re talking about.

    • ang

ok you might have had an arguement there untill you called ann coulter beautiful and intelligent, and then i read the rest of your post…..what an idiot you are, judging others? SHAME on you and everything you stand for. the “grotesque” liberal women you speak of, are all beautiful, intelligent, SUCCESSFUL people, and who are you? HMMMMM….someone who rants on these message boards.

  • Don

This woman is an idiot. She constantly runs her mouth about things she doesn’t have a clue on. The view is absolutely intolerable with her on it and that’s why they can’t keep good cohosts. WHY this woman is famous for having done nothing but reality t.v. is anyones guess. Why should this bimbos opinion matter to me anyway she’s not in office and believe me gay people have much better role models and don’t need her support.

    • Lee T.

She’s certainly not claiming to be a role model for gays, since she’s not gay. She just said she’s decided to support gay marriage, instead of going along with the man-woman version. BTW, gay men and women can still get married, just not to each other. So technically, they do have the exact same marital rights as straights. What they’re trying to do is tp actually change the definition of marriage.

Back to Elisabeth H. now… she’s famous for being attractive, intelligent, friendly, a good talker and hard worker at whatever she does. Can you say the same for yourself?

      • ang

NOOOOOOoooo….what we are trying to do is have the right to marry who we love…just like straight people. and all the rights that go along with marriage.

  • Dee

Too bad Meslissa and her wife are going through a bitter breakup.

  • Lou

Well, the last woman brave enough to stand up for what she believed in has been seduced by the gay and lesbian community. And–just think–one evening meal with Ethridge was able to change Elizabeth’s life long opinion. Must have been a very “persuasive” conversation.

  • Cyndi

What’s with all the conservative hate? Maybe she just realized that two people loving each other can never be a threat to anyone! Grow up people, live and let live for once, and let go of your hateful prejudices.

    • Lee T.

I don’t think it’s always a matter of hate. Sometimes it’s just a moral conviction that there’s something perverse about gay sex…especially when it’s two men (two women is fine, of course).

And as for abortion, conservatives generally believe that life begins at conception, so the baby is considered a human with human rights… just the same way slaves were considered human by the people trying to give them human rights, a la The Civil War.

Now, as for the so-called HATERS, I see a lot more hate coming from liberals than from conservatives. Of course there are mean-spirited ones on both sides, but studies show (as well as anecdotal observations) that hate speech from the left is about 7 to 8 times greater than the other way around. Even Juan Williams, a long-time NPR liberal commentator, said he’s never seen so much hate directed at liberals as there is against people at Fox and at himself when he took a conservative stand on African-American fathers not abandoning their families, which happens 80% of the time. (he’s black, so don’t bothering playing the race card here and crying for Jesse Jackson to come to the rescue).

      • ang

hypocrite….2 women are fine? where are your moral convictions?

  • Brandon

Pretty sure Osbourne made the comment on Jimmy Kimmel’s program and not Jimmy Fallon. Check your facts

  • khandi

Chris I feel the same way. I stopped watching the view because of her.

  • http://www.dovechocolatediscoveries.com/nicholeg Nichole

The only one I like on the View is Elisabeth!! She has morals and she stands up for them! She is how other women should be!! I am most like her, and proud of it!! :)

    • Sam

There you go, Nichole! I have no problem with Elizabeth, either, but I don’t have favorites on the view. Only thing I noticed is Whoopi gets angry far less than the others, and treats Elizabeth better than the rest of ‘em. She’s younger and young boys still jerk off to her :D . Although, I see something very charming about Joy, as well… and I’m gonna have a lot of ppl roll their eyes right now – but if any of the View ladies have a home-made movie leaked just like in Kardashian’s case, I’m watchin’ it! Maybe more for curiosity than anything else.
And how in God’s name do you ‘hate’ a TV show host? For what..? Does she owe you money, did she sleep with your man (or woman)? Then relax, dang it, take a chill pill.
I agree, though, one can easily ask the question, “why should I care what any of you think…?” But I like the View for I get to observe women in their natural habitat, more or less. I feel like I get to look into the women’s locker room without breaking any laws or moral code of conduct. I do learn about how women think from this show, I have no problem with it.
And yeah, this article said nohting useful about gay marriage to me… I still don’t give a rat’s *** about whether gay people should get married or not… I don’t get why stop them, though, and they already live together – what’s the difference if the law helps them just like it does straight people?

  • notangie

Anyone that has their own opinions or stands by their morals is an “idiot” or “bitch”. Grow Up!!!!!

  • Dave

So for 35 years one dinner changed her view of the world. What a fool looking for people to like her SELLOUT.

    • LESBIAN

it’s called being a person you asshole. sounds more like elisabeth broadened her mind and heart and came to realize that we are all alike and everyone is an equal citizen.

  • Sam

Well, I have… little critique to any of the View women. And the show never claimed to be highly intellectual, guys, let’s not get over ourselves here… It’s called the View, not “the lecture from PhD people” or something more catchy. The point of the show is to display a few women in action of exchanging views. It’s like saying, “Have you ever wondered what would happen if a few women got together and started talking about the most iffy subjects they normally try to avoid on national TV? This is your chance to find out!”
Elizabeth is… still the youngest one and still has potential to have young boys 13 through 30 pleasure ‘selves to her poster around the world. But the fact that this matter doesn’t interfere with the show too much is what makes me want to watch it.
And hey – if a porno came out with any of the ladies of The View, I’d be watching it! And I might even be ‘moved’ by it, no one on that show I consider ugly, say what you want.

  • Fuzzy

Anybody that watches that crap!! Should be slapped. Gays are gays,I don’t hate and but do not like you! She is dumb than dumb, but all these Obama fans need to wake up. This man is taking away your rights and freedoms, if you dont wake up soon it will be to late!!! America stands for freedom, we the right to disagree with each other and have a point or view. People wake up please!!!

  • Ursus Indomitus

Another victim sucked into the agenda of the dark side. Soon they’ll have Elizebeth wearing overalls and Birkenstocks and she’ll stop shaving her legs and pits.

    • LESBIAN

then she’ll look like your mama!!

  • DANIEL

REMEMBER ELIZABETH YOU WILL ANSWER TO GOD FOR WHAT YOU SAY AND DO AND AS YOU TURN YOUR BACK ON GODS TEACHINGS NOT ONLY WILL IT AFFECT YOU BUT ALSO YOUR FAMILY”" EVERYONE WILL LIVE FOREVER YOU DECIDE WERE”" PLEASE GIVE YOUR KIDS A CHANCE LOVE PEOPLE BUT NOT THEIR SIN MANY PEOPLE COULD GO TO HELL BECAUSE OF YOU USE YOUR GIFTS FROM GOD I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU DANIEL

  • Rick Emerson

Being that I, in NO way, have ANY faith in the LAMESTREAM Media, I do NOT have much faith in this WHOLE story…but in the event that it MAY be true, then I have lost ALL respect and admiration for Hasselbeck. I thought that she was standing up for the Commandments of the Creator of the Universe, at Whom so many of you would scoff. But go ahead and scoff, and then stand with your mouth wide open, with no response, when the God that made ALL allows YOU what you NEVER allowed Him…the opportunity, through His written Word, to speak the TRUTH regarding ANY and ALL abominations to Him, including the SECOND most ROTTEN abominaion, behind murder (including ABORTION), that namely being HOMOSEXUALITY!I know that YOU who support homosexual marriage, etc., will NOT accept this…but human anantomy and physiology do NOT support WHOLE sick notion of homosexuality. We are NOT made that way! Try, for ONCE in your life, to give the WHOLE notion some TRUE intellectual thought! That is, if you are capable…

  • http://showbizspy adrienne

Just WHO is E. Hasselbach and WHY to we have to accept her opinions on anything? To me, she’s just some loud blonde on a women’s talk show.

  • duh

    It was on jimmy kimmel

  • elle

um….NEVER been a hassleback fan. I see through her publicity stunt with her “change” of heart about gay marriage. sorry!

  • http://www.internetworthmarketing.net Namron Toi

Hasselbeck has surely made a step in the right direction tolerance and openness is better than hate any day. All this change in her views on gay marriage was due to her having dinner with lesbian singer Melissa Etheridge. Calling all gay folks, follow in her footsteps, you just might turn a few in the right direction.
