DAVID ARCHULETA — UNCOOL AND NOT VERY IMPRESSIVE!!

David ArchuletaDAVID Archuleta learned to embrace his “inner dork” while working on his new album, The Other Side of Down.

“I know the kind of person I am,” the American Idol alum, 19, told the USA Today newspaper. “I know how the world looks at impressive people and cool people and people who succeed. I do not fit that mold.

“So how am I supposed to be in a position where everyone’s looking at me? How am I going to make that positive impact and be impressive to people?

“I could try to be cool. A lot of artist get developed, get an image and get that whole mysterious persona. I can not do that. I could try, but I know that’s not me.

“One of the biggest things for me is to be honest with myself and real with other people. If I were to try to create an image that’s not who I am to look appealing to other people, I’d be so uncomfortable with that.

“It’s like I was fighting with myself: ‘David, you’re not cool! What if people don’t like who you are, because you’re not that image?’ Then I was like, ‘Not everyone’s going to like who you are, no matter what you do. Somebody’s always going to have a problem with you.’

“This is what I realized: What if there are other people out there who are like me? Who are wondering the same things as me, feeling the same way? I can relate to them!”

The Other Side of Down hits stores this week.

    David being himself is impressive enough! He’s got to be of the most genuine and unique young artists around today. Thanks for the article and bring attention to his creative new album. I just downloaded from itunes and have been listening nonstop!

    I agree with Shelbie. I will not be buying David Archuleta’s album as it just isn’t my musical taste but I applaud him for keeping it real and sending the message out there that it really is okay to be yourself.

    David, I think you are impressive. You have a beautiful voice and many years in front of you to develop into the person you are meant to be. It is refreshing to see a young artist who is good at what he does and not all mixed up in his personality or with trying to be what everyone else thinks he should be. Keep singing!!

    David is totally right. Be who you are. But duh, we all would say that. Its not rocket science. I say that most people we assume are following a trend are actually being themselves as well. We just assume that if you are successful or shocking, you must have focused on what sells and not who you are. Which is totally stupid.
    As for Davids music, being himself isn’t working so well. Completely forgettable middle-of-the-road music. But I guess that’s David. I’d love to buy one of his albums, but I’d be buying it just to look at his picture.

    I think it’s wonderful that David is staying true to himself instead of being what other people want him to. He is a great role-model for young kids with a killer singing voice. I support him all the way and anyone who just called him a dork is going straight to hell ;)

    David Archuleta is way HOT and has a giving soul that would never put someone down unlike other people. He’s not an artists who sells out to sell albums he actually uses a gimmick called TALENT. You won’t ever catch him lip syncing like most artists out there. Check out Falling Stars at least it is so worth it.

    I love “The Other Side of Down”…it’s fun, refreshing and honest and David’s vocals are awesome. He’s probably one of the best singers around today. This album is a million times better than the garbage playing on radio today. Thanks David for making “real” music.

    I know a LOT of people (not just 12 year old girls) who were huge fans of David Archuleta when he was on “American Idol” in 2008 and were looking forward to his albums, but have been apathetic to his CDs — either because of the uneven material and/or his vocals seem squelched (or sometimes even Autotuned, which David clearly doesn’t need).

    Archie is clearly one of the best singers of his generation in a sea of otherwise non-singing singers, but somehow he’s yet to stumble upon the right song (or production techniques) that show off his pipes as he could on “AI”.

    David isn’t going away, but his career management is in question right now.

    I love David A. no matter what. We all know that David has a beautiful voice that doesn’t need Autotuned or any production techniques. That’s why tons of his fans traveled thousand miles to watch his shows because they were able to hear his voice and his talent. Thanks God that David has his loyal fans who believe in him and love him and adore him and will be his fans for the longest time. I bought his first CDs, his Christmas CDs and gave them to my best friends, and I already preordered his TOSOD CD, and I plan to buy some of them to give to my other best friends. May God bless David and give him a lot of love and happiness, Amen, amen, amen.

    To me David is the coolest, having enough confidence to just be yourself is very impressive, especially as a teenager. Young people tend to be followers but David’s clearly a creative artist who does his own things. He will have a long lasting career in music.

    I love his new cd btw.
