ELISABETH HASSELBECK DIDN’T PLAN TO WORK IN TELEVISION

ELISABETH Hasselbeck admits she didn’t set out to work in television.
The View co-host — who has a new gig as a contributor on ABC’s Good Morning America, reporting on family, lifestyle and child-rearing topics — says she originally set out to be a designer.
“Television is truly something that was not on my radar,” she said. “It was kind of a twist of fate I ended up on The View. First and foremost, I am a designer by profession. [Being a TV personality] is a skill and career I have found along way. I am not passive about it. I really work hard at my job.”
Hasselbeck then talked about her spot on GMA — and revealed she idolizes Barbara Walters.
“My official title is ABC News Contributor, relevant to teen [and children] and parenting topics,” she said. “It’s a great way to complement what I do at The View. It’s an opportunity to sharpen a skill set and focus on one topic. I have always seen myself as both the broadcaster — and the viewer. I am the mom at home who wants to know the latest trend in parenting and all the relevant information. This allows me to get in there and get the information as both a correspondent and the viewer.
“My idol … is Barbara Walters. Can I do this? Can I take on more than more thing? I have the questions as a working mom and I really look to her and see how much she does. She gave me the nod. Do this Elisabeth.
“I want to take on topics that I can really dig into. I pitched the segment about K-2 synthetic marijuana, saying this is a relevant topic. I wanted to see how easy it was to buy it. I went out into the field, I interviewed the medical expert. I voiced over the track and was back in the studio to do the interview. This is certainly not just reading from the prompter. I have embraced it. There is not a question I have not researched on my own. I’m really trying to be on the pulse with the community of parents … trying to put the most important topics out there.”
Recent reports claimed Elisabeth is feeling used and abused by Sarah Palin!
Back in 2008, Hasselbeck introduced Palin at Florida political rallies, and thought the pair would end up the best of buddies.
But it seems Sarah had other ideas as she attempted to claw her way to the top of the political ladder — leaving Elisabeth furious!
“Elizabeth feels used by the former governor,” a source told the PopEater website.
“She stood up and did everything she could to help get Sarah into the White House, expecting to have made a friend for life. Elizabeth isn’t fake. You might not like her politics, but she is a very genuine person. If she likes someone, she will do whatever she can to help them.
“That genuine desire to help her friend inspired Elizabeth to take a break from her home and family and hit the campaign trail, something she didn’t mind one bit.
“What she does mind is the fact that now this friend no longer needs her, she doesn’t even return her calls!”
