Elizabeth EdwardsELIZABETH Edwards has died after losing her six-year battle against breast cancer. She was 61.

The political wife whose personal dramas, including her husband’s infidelity, were played out on a public stage — passed away Tuesday at her home in Chapel Hill, N.C., according to a family friend.

Edwards was married to former U.S. Sen. John Edwards.

On Dec. 6, 2010, it was announced that Elizabeth’s doctors decided that further treatment for her breast cancer would be unproductive and that she only had months to live.

“Elizabeth has been advised by her doctors that further treatment of her cancer would be unproductive. She is resting at home with family and friends,” the Edwards family said.

She also posted a Facebook message to her friends.

“I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces – my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope,” she wrote.

“These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined. The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that.”

Edwards was first diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2004. She was briefly hospitalized last week after not feeling well over Thanksgiving. Doctors said her cancer had metastasized to the liver.

“It isn’t possible to put into words the love and gratitude I feel to everyone who has and continues to support and inspire me every day,” Edwards added on Facebook. “To you I simply say: you know. With love, Elizabeth.”

Mrs. Edwards was an angel on earth. Her smiles i the face of adversity was unbelievable. I pray that her children and of course John and all the family would remember this angel and know that she will be watching over them until they make their journey to join her. I pray that the almighty God will guide them t’ill then.

What a beautiful woman, on the inside and out. Her grin, and spark in her eyes offered millions hope, not just in her battle through cancer, but her powerful persona in carrying on following the death of her son.. The numerous sorrows she challenged in her existence, as well as her strength in getting through all of them, made her one of the more adored women of our time, and one of the very beloved…I heard it brought up that she once stated. “I don’t fear death because I will be with Wade again”…She is with him now.. May she rest in peace.

I am sad for her as well as her loved ones that she passed away and had to endure for such a long time, she certainly deserved far better, being betrayed by her husband during her darkest hour. Quite sad situation.
