IRON MAN 3: JON FAVREAU WON’T BE DIRECTING IRON MAN 3

Posted by Adam

Jon FavreauJON Favreau is no longer a part of Iron Man.

According to reports from Deadline and Vulture, Favreau — who has just wrapped Cowboys & Aliens and is about to embark on Disney’s Magic Kingdom – won’t be returning to direct the third movie in the smash hit franchise.

It isn’t known why Jon isn’t returning, but insiders are speculating it has something to do with money. It’s believed he likely would command $12 million to $15 million up front, plus a 15 percent percent of the gross after the film recouped.

In a recent interview with MTV News, Favreau explained that based on his conversations with Marvel Studios executives, he had no clarity as to what a third Iron Man film would even be about.

“In theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers,” he said at the time, “This whole world … I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”

Favreau has a good head on his shoulders. He knows when to duck out. I honestly can’t see where this franchise is going and how it will be possible to pull it off, especially a whole movie with multiple superheroes and such..and apparently he can’t, either.

The cartoons manage to do it every week. It really should’nt be that hard. More than likely Favreau bowed out over money. Marvel’s has grown a reputation, since the first Iron Man movie, of being penny pinchers. Favreau was the engine behind the IM franchise and wants to be rewarded accordingly, according to the reported 15% gate asking price.. and Marvel doesn’t wan’t to budge. it’s like profesiional sports franchise owners vs the players. The players want a larger portion of the billion dollar pot and the owners want to keep as much of that pot in their pockets as they can, they figure the director, can always be replaced. We’ll see how it goes.

I don’t really like this guy as a director. Iron Man 1 & 2 were decent, but I think they were successful more so because of the name. I don’t like that he let Terrence Howard go. I don’t like that for some reason, he won’t stick to true origin stories, assuming that would affect how realistic his movies are. I don’t see what makes him think either movie was realistic. 1st off, if it were the real world, the government would have already attempted to seize the suit instead of holding public hearings requesting Stark to give it up, especially when it’s affecting foreign affairs. I hate all of the rambling dialogue between Downey Jr & Paltrow.(So annoying) Wasn’t Pepper with the bodyguard Happy Hogan in the books? Not saying that everything has to be dead on accurate, but to totally go against the story, and claim it’s to make the movie more realistic, is a joke. Let him go.

I could’nt disagree with you more. I thought Favreau created a very entertaining and believable world, as comic books go. (Try making a man that dresses up as a flying robot believable in any genre.) But as for the IM movies they’re among the better super hero movies and closer adaptations to their comic book counterparts as their is in the history of comic to film translations. Terrance howard was let go because Marvel didn’t want to pay him his asking price, Favreau had nothing to do with it. As for the origin stories, none of the Marvel movies to date, with the possible exception of Spiderman have stuck to the origin, and even Spidey was tweaked with regards to organic webs rather than web shooters. The problem lies in the fact that most of the comic origins take place in the mid sixties, in the hieght of the cold war… so to keep the characters young, fresh or even up to date with today’s society, the origins have to be tweaked accoridingly to make them relevant to today. See F.F., Hulk, Batman even. As good as the Nolan Batman movies are, how realistic is it for a man to roam around the streets of a major hub dressed in black body armor, a cape and pointy ears? As for Downey and his rambling, he was never my first choice as Tony Sark, in fact i rolled my eyes when I heard the news.. but surprinsgly, he’s made it work. To the tune of millions of dollars for the IM franchise and the new Avenger EMH cartoon’s character is obviously based on Downeys performance from the movies, complete with annoying rambling. So… one man;s thumbs down, is another’s thumbs up.
