Teena Marie: Rocker Lenny Kravitz Reacts to Teena Marie’s Death

Teena MarieROCKER Lenny Kravitz has reacted the shock death of singer Teena Marie.

The Grammy Award-winning American Woman hitmaker posted a message on YouTube Monday from Paris after waking up to find out his “long-time friend” had died suddenly at the age of 54.

“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Teena, she took me in when I was around 16,” he said. “I was just a musician living on the street living from pillar to post.

“She nurtured me and helped me to become who I am.

“She changed my life not only as an artist but as a person who truly loved me for who I was.

“I will always love and respect you. Thank you, Father, for the life of Teena Marie.”

Teena was found dead by her daughter in her Los Angeles home on Sunday, according to her manager, Mike Gardner.

The cause of death was not immediately known but Marie’s publicist, Lynn Jeter, said she suffered a grand mal seizure a month ago.

An autopsy is set to take place later this week, though, according to TMZ, no illegal drugs were found at the scene.

Teena — born Marie Christine Brockert — released 13 studio albums over the course of her career, which spawned the 1984 hit Lovergirl.

She was signed to Motown Records in 1976 and was one of their most successful white artists. Marie is perhaps best known for her musical collaborations with the late funk legend Rick James.
