Robert Redford: Second Wife a Charm For Actor Robert Redford

Posted by Adam

Robert RedfordROBERT Redford’s second wife has given him a “whole new life”.

The 74-year-old actor tied the knot with German-born artist Sibylle Szaggars, 55, two years ago and insists having a younger spouse keeps him very active.

“She’s a very special person. She’s younger than I am and European, which I like, so that’s a whole new life,” Redford told AARP The Magazine.

“I ride horses, ski, play pretty hard tennis. I still have energy. When that starts to shut down, I might start to think about age.”

The Conspirator star also admitted he feels his advancing years have made him a better director and producer because he has a greater perspective on events.

“When you get older, you learn certain life lessons,” he said. “You apply that wisdom, and suddenly you say, ‘Hey, I’ve got a new lease on this thing. So let’s go.’ ”

Robert insists he has no intention of quitting acting despite his advancing years, and still thinks he has a lot to offer on the big screen.

“There are movies I want to make,” he said. “For a long time I’ve wanted to do a thriller. I like being scared, and I like scaring. And I want to keep acting, though I think the business has concluded that I don’t want to act anymore.”

In 1959, Robert and first wife Lola suffered tragedy when their baby son Scott died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and he admits the couple struggled to cope with their loss.

“It was really hard. We were very young … We didn’t know anything about SIDS, so the only thing you think is that you’ve done something wrong,” he said. “As a parent, you tend to blame yourself. That creates a scar that probably never completely heals.”

I used to admire Robert Redford, not anymore! I can’t believe and old man needs the company of a younger woman to make him feel young, Redford’s comment makes him so superficial.

so in other words, if he prefers a younger woman, he isn’t worth liking? let’s hear it for personal choice! you are lying. the only reason you won’t care to watch him or like him any more is because you’ve already seen his classic films and on top of that, your jealousy at not having a younger woman yourself is obvious.

So let me get this straight. You’d rather a younger woman than the one who stood by you through thick and thin the first time around…ironed your clothes for you while you were a struggling actor, did the mending, cooked your meals…the one that you vowed the first time around to be with you through “good times and in bad, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health”? How shallow YOU are, dear. Marriage isn’t Burger King. You can’t just have it “your way” all the time. There’s give and take.

I believe Mr. Redford is right on the money. We do gain more wisdom the older we get and the more information we gather thru life’s experiences is what give’s it to us. The guy that commented just prior to my msg. is most likely much younger than Mr. Redford or myself and he should do himself a favor by gaining the knowledge of what its like to walk in another man’s moccasin’s before making comments about something he has no experience with, as of yet. Having a woman of any age in your life is a blessing, but its even better when she has a different opinion or has lived in an entirely different community during her life, such as with Mr. Redfords wife. Once again to the fellow who commented before me, just hang in there, and keep breathing. One day you’ll understand what we’re talking about. Adios…T

I agree with Mr. RobertZuckschwerdt – Robert Redford has proven time and time again just how superficial he really is. He made a living banking off of his good looks…and reputation. He married Lola because it “looked good for the press”. How he’s managed to stay married to wifey number 2 is beyond me.

LOL! Keep on going you spring chicken!

  • http://delawaretrio@yahoo.com Joan

Wow, I feel great!! Who would have thought a woman in her 50′s would be considered “the younger woman”!!! Now I am really looking forward to my 54th birthday this April!!

    • Jean

OOPS! Spring Chicken comment meant for Joan! ROFL!

      • Linda

Put on your glasses…and quit going to Sears Optical!! They GOT YOUR PRESCRIPTION WRONG AGAIN!!

  • farnerfan

Congratulations Mr. Robert and Mrs. Sybille I too am in my 50′s and it makes me feel good to know there are still mature men out there that want to enjoy life. And that’s all it’s really about…enjoying life.

But of course I have to tell you…stay close to our Lord Jesus and you’ll have it made. He’s the reason you’re so happy and feeling so much younger. I wish I could remember the scripture where God tells us He will restore us to our youth. That’s what you are living right now….go with it, my Man. Seventy-four or not…you’re still one of the best.

Why would you trade off the “love of your life” for a younger woman is beyond me. If Robert Redford’s concern is about keeping active in his senior years, he should just get younger guy friends –who can play basketball, tennis, baseball, skiing with him or better yet join the YMCA or local sports center– not trade off the “love of his life” the “mother of his children” for woman who could be his daughter. I no longer support you Mr. Redford.. You showed your true colors.

    • Linda

      AMEN Mr.. Reyd…AMEN

  • M. J.

We now know how he feels about American females, sounds like he doesn’t like them, or respect them. Thanks alot for nothing.

  • Biff

    Damn she’s not that young, she’s already a M.I.L.F.

  • Cory Lombard

Early on I really liked Redford as an actor…he did (does good work); never thought he was so ultra hot looking. He does more than just lend himself to shallowness readily in regards to his marriage, “staying young” and “european women”…oh how blonde.

  • wop hater

yuck.who wants an old lady.go for a hot 20 year old robert.older woman gross me out.im 45 and only date girls 19 or 20…mmmmm so nice and fresh.

  • Linda

I have no clue as to why I was a fan before…I was younger and stupider back then. Now I’ve wizened up. Seen him for exactly who he is. And he is one untalented, non-actor pretty boy who got all of his roles based on his looks. Remember Denys Finch-Hatton from Out of Africa? Good grief!! How wooden can you be in a part? And you’re supposed to be BRITISH for Christ’s sake! Not some Blond Beach Boy!

  • Rhonda Allan

I think everyone has the right to choose how they want to live!!! I think everyone who has left a negative remark needs to admit that if they had a chance to be ulta good looking (not that blondes are my type), ultra talented….they too would have bank rolled on it!!!! And so what!!! He has a right to love someone else, if he and his 1st wife were no longer in love!!!! So, judge not lest you be judged!!!!

    • Cory Lombard

Wrong! Redford is so not hot; I joked with “the Blonde” part…directed to him…nobody else. A CHANCE? Duh? You obviously are uninformed. Good Luck With That.
