Steven Tyler: Cathartic Memoir From Aerosmith Rocker Steven Tyler!

Posted by Adam

Steven TylerSTEVEN Tyler loved penning his memoir — because he found the experience “cathartic”.

The Aerosmith rocker and American Idol judge — who will release his autobiography Does The Noise In My Head Bother You? in May — admits looking back over his early career and colorful personal life was an emotional experience.

“God, a memoir. A memoir like this is beyond cathartic. It’s one step better than having an album with your songs on it from the ’70s and it being 2010,” he said.

“Doing a book, you bring up things that you didn’t remember happened, and as soon as you do, it opens up that place in your mind that you spew out onto the pages. It’s like watching your own yearbook, your own personal yearbook, and I hope that’s what this is.”

“When you put on the headphones and you listen to the beginning of [Aerosmith song] Sweet Emotion, you have all of this incredible room sound that you were in then and can totally relate to. It’s so strong that you can almost smell it when you’re in the headphones listening to the beginning of ‘Sweet Emotion’, for someone like me who wrote it, sang it, was in the studio and knows what went on. Just listening to it brings me totally back.”

Recent reports claimed Tyler is planning to tie the knot with his longtime girlfriend Erin Brady .

“Erin is very protective of Steven,” a source told American tabloid the National Enquirer. “She gets jealous even when he tosses a sideways glance at another woman.

“And during the auditions, he made it clear that he was more than a little interested in some of the young female contestants.”

Erin — who has been married twice before — started dating in 2006, after Teresa, his wife of 18 years and the mother of his two youngest children, left him for their contractor.

“Erin even pushed Steven to take the American Idol judging gig,” said the source.

“Erin believes it allows him to make a bundle of money and stand on his own two feet, apart from the band.

“Now, she says the only thing that would make their life together complete would be to become his bride.”

As a writer I totally understand the feeling of catharsis that Steven refers to. A memoir frees and liberates. Helps in understanding who I am and why. A true “enema of the soul.”

I was actually a bit confused by all this, but thanks for taking the time to explain anyway. It was quite well written :)
