JULIA Louis-Dreyfus is heading to HBO!
The former Seinfeld star will play Sen. Selina Meyer, whose image of being vice president is shattered once she lands in office, in new comedy series Veep.
The comedy, which was written by Armando Iannucci – who also serves as director and executive producer — is set in Washington, D.C. and costars Anna Chlumsky (Lights Out) and Tony Hale (Arrested Development).
Veep will begin production this fall in Baltimore for a 2012 debut.
“Armando Iannucci is a master of smart, savvy humor, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus is one of the sharpest comic actors around,” said Sue Naegle, HBO’s entertainment president, in a statement.
“We look forward to a memorable series from them and fellow executive producers Frank Rich and Christopher Godsick.”
Adds Louis-Dreyfus, “It is a true delight to work with HBO and Armando Iannucci. I take the role of vice president very seriously, and although everyone says this is a comedy, I don’t think there is anything funny at all about me being a heartbeat away from the presidency.”
