Padma Lakshmi Paid to Leave The Stage!

Posted by Adam

PADMA Lakshmi isn’t very popular.

According to a report from New York Post gossip column Page Six, the audience paid to get the Top Chef host off the stage at The Moth’s storytelling event at Cooper Union Tuesday night.

Sources say Padma was so “grating” as a host that a guest in the front row stood up and pledged to give the non-profit Moth $1,000 if she left — and she agreed.

“She was rambling,” a source said. “She told a long story about wanting to try a hot dog and later begged guests to donate $20 each.

“The man stood up and said, ‘I will donate $1,000 if you get off the stage right now’.”

Nice work Page 6! Did you leave out the part that as the host of the evening, Padma was also a storyteller? Her story was a bittersweet anecdote about not being able to eat hot dogs as a child because her mom raised her vegetarian. So she wasn’t just up there rambling, it was her allotted time to tell a story.

And let’s also not forget that Padma was asking for audience members to donate $20 to The Moth and whatever the grand total was, she would match it. Let’s not conveniently leave that part out.

Did someone offer $1,000 for her to get off the stage during the mini pledge drive she started? Yes. But everyone laughed and shook it off. By the way it was a humorless old fart who was up far past his bedtime that made the rude statement.

This story is so out of context it’s ridiculous. The Moth was wonderful and so was every person up on that stage.

She was annoying and narcissistic – gratuitously cursing and belching and trying WAY too hard to be cute / funny / cool (and she doesn’t need to – that’s the shame of it!). Other story tellers were great…and yes, she was trying to secure matching donations but she took it way too far and was dragging out an already long evening. I think it was rude of the guy who did it but the audience was relieved to have her finally shut up! She should stick to her script and not go off course…
