TOM Hardy had a very painful introduction to Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon while working on new movie This Means War.

“The first thing I did was shoot him in the groin,” says Reese with the paintball scene for the comedy.

“It’s hard to go in on your first day of shooting because I didn’t know Tom very well. Then I had to shoot him in the crotch which is a good ice breaker, it turns out!”

Hardy has previously admitted he’s a “softie” despite his tough guy persona.

“There is a softie within me, you know, I’m someone’s dad, I have a three year old who means the world to me. I really just want to be with my missus and my son and my dog and do films and be left alone,” he said.
