Katie Couric Hits Out at NBC For Firing Ann Curry

Thursday, August 30, 2012

KATIE Couric isn’t happy with NBC.

The ex TODAY anchor has hit out at the network for how it handled Ann Curry‘s firing from the one-time morning news ratings leader, saying she feels very bad for her former colleague.

“I felt really bad for Ann. I still don’t understand why they didn’t give her a sort of a proper send-off. Ann did some extraordinary work during her time there. It was just not the best chapter in the TODAY show. It made me sad for the institution,” she said.

Curry was infamously dumped as the co-anchor of TODAY after Good Morning America started to beat the long-time number one show. Couric was a part of the TODAY family from 1991 until 2006 and worked with Curry extensively during that time.

Ratings for TODAY have continued to decline since Curry’s departure, with Good Morning America beating them again last week by 520,000 viewers, making it the number one morning news program for two weeks in a row.

Couric’s talk show, Katie, will premiere on ABC affiliates on Monday, September 10.
