Cyndi Lauper: ‘I Wanted to Kill Myself’

Posted by Adam

CYNDI Lauper has revealed she once wanted to kill herself.

The Girls Just Want to Have Fun hitmaker was so depressed after hitting rock bottom that she considered taking her own life by jumping from a New York City hotel balcony.

In her new book, Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir, Lauper pens up about the dark times she endured before becoming an international sensation with the release of her 1983 album, She’s So Unusual.

“I nearly killed myself,” Cyndi reveals in the book. “The only thing that always prevented me from suicide is that I never wanted a headline to read: ‘Girl who wanted to have fun just didn’t.’

“It was such a dark time for me. I thought the sadness would never go away.”

Now 59, Cyndi is happily married to actor David Thornton and has a 14-year-old son, Declyn.

“Cyndi’s been to hell and back, but she’s survived it all,” a pal said.

“She hopes her life path can show people that anything is possible.”
