‘Girls Aloud’ singer Cheryl Cole has hit back at the latest rumors that the band are about to split.

The Sun reports that the rumor surfaced when songwriter Alison Clarkson (AKA Betty Boo) said in a radio interview that she had been asked to write a song for Cheryl because she wanted to go off and start a solo career:  “I’ve been asked to write for Cheryl, because she’s gonna start on her own, I think, because she asked for me. We’ll see what happens.”

Which lead Cheryl to contact The Sun newspaper directly to try and quash the rumor:   “We’re still finishing the new album, which I have to say is our best yet.

“I’m not sure why anyone would think I would want to work on a solo album now.

“It’s sad that people have to say these things to get a little bit of publicity off the back of us.”
