Boris Johnson voted King of Style

 Boris Johnson

Boris Johnson has been voted London’s Most Stylish Politician, according to the results of a new poll into London’s Most Stylish, conducted by private member’s club The Kingly Club to celebrate its award as London’s Most Stylish Venue*.

Boris just pips David Cameron to the post, while Gordon Brown gets the thumbs down with the vote as Least Stylish Politician. Kate Moss reigns supreme as Most Stylish female, arm in arm with suave Daniel Craig who beat all contenders by a wide margin to become Most Stylish Male, while Keira Knightley and Rupert Friend are voted Most Stylish Couple.

The poll was conducted amongst over 1400 members of the Kingly Club and the luxury lifestyle and concierge directory ‘Stylebible’ * in order to create a picture of London style in 2007. The fascinating results reveal that today’s stylish Londoner lives in Notting Hill, drives a Bentley Convertible GT, listens to Funky House, works in fashion and shops in Bond Street wearing his or her favorite designer label – Alexander McQueen or Marc Jacobs.

They prefer to eat Japanese food, and drink champagne, practising pilates to keep fit, and enjoying polo as their favourite sport. For a city break, they will pop over to New York, while choosing the Maldives for a longer holiday.

Dezzi McCausland, owner of the Kingly Club comments: ‘London is at the forefront of style around the world. We wanted to produce an annual monitor of style trends -looking at the famous faces who represent London life – but also the Londoners who make our city such a vibrant and exciting place to live. We were amazed by the enthusiastic response to our poll – it seems everyone has a view about what constitutes London style’.

Soho’s Kingly Club is well qualified as an authority on London style: formerly the legendary Pinstripe Club, its heritage is steeped in glamour, playing host to famous style icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Oliver Reed and George Best during the 1960s. Today, it hosts parties for big names such as Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson, while also being the favourite haunt of many well known faces, attracting a sophisticated and exclusive clientele.

Kingly’s image is based on quality rather than quantity, providing an intimate space in which to meet friends, party and enjoy great music. With its luxurious cream colour scheme, sleek leather sofas and padded recesses, combined with futuristic curved walls, solid glass bar and salt water aquariums, the club has a unique style which is different to any other member’s club
Least Stylish

London’s least stylish paint a very different picture. Headed up by Pete Doherty and Jade Goody as least stylish male and female, and Katie Price and Peter Andre as least stylish couple, the typical style-less Londoner lives in Brixton, drives a 4×4, listens to pop music, works in finance and heads off to his local Indian for a beer. He shops in Oxford Street, wears clothes by George at Asda (or Primark if female) and works out at the gym. His choice of city break would be Blackpool and he goes on holiday in either Butlins or Thailand.

Crocs came top of the list of style blunders voted by Londoners – along with Ugg boots, leggings and muffin tops.
