J.K. Rowling to sue US publisher

J.K. RowlingMillionaire Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is reportedly planning to sue a US publisher planning to release a Harry Potter encyclopedia.

According to reports, Jowling, 42 and Warner Bros – who make the Harry Potter films – are attempting to block RDR Books from publishing the 400-page encyclopedia based on the Harry Potter Lexicon website.

In an interview, Rowling said: “I cannot approve of ‘companion books’ or ‘encyclopedias’ that seek to pre-empt my definitive Potter reference book for their authors’ own personal gain.”

The author has previously praised Harry Potter Lexicon for its accurate, detailed information about her boy wizard creation, and in 2004 even presented it with a Fan Site Award.

But Rowling claims the book will infringe on her intellectual property rights and prevent her from penning  her own version of the Harry Potter encyclopedia.

It’s no surprise everyone wants to jump on the Harry Potter bandwagon – since Rowling’s first book “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone ” in 1997 , the ‘Harry Potter’ brand has grown to be worth an estimated $15 billion.

The 2007 Sunday Times Rich List estimated J.K. Rowling’s fortune at £545 million ($1.13 Billion) making her the 136th richest person and the thirteenth richest woman in Britain.
