Princess Michael of Kent put party-goers firmly in their place after they made the mistake of touching her at a fund-raising dinner.
HRH grew irritated with over-familiar American guests at the bash in Palm Beach, Florida, even though their friendly brushes were seemingly innocent.
Onlookers said it seemed she wanted to keep her own personal space, despite agreeing to pose for photographs, and came across as “rude and nasty”.
“When one man was talking to her, he was touching her shoulder,” one guest said.
“She said, ‘Don’t touch me, that’s not done’, and was telling people they were violating the rules.
“People were doing all the wrong things, we’re just a bunch of Americans.”
According to reports in the US, when she sat down for the presentation of an art exhibit at the party, she warned one man, “Get your hand off my chair”.
And while having her photograph taken with the event chairman, the princess told him off for putting his arm around her. “She told him ‘It is not done to touch royalty,’ ” said one onlooker.
